This song's been in the works since the start of the year. I initially thought I'd have it out on the 17th of April, but unfortunately we couldn't make it happen. Special thanks to Harris (https://soundcloud.com/user-165963817) and Feàrn for taking the time to work on this song at one of the busiest times of the year.

Being soft rock inspired, this song is a fair bit more upbeat than my previous releases. The song has no French lyrics and no recorder solo, replacing those with some half-baked physics references.

A love song to a star sung by a moon, it remembers their past friendship (and love) as the moon longs for either one back. This, however, is impossible. Interpreted that way, the lyrics are actually bleaker than my earlier songs...

Star

I made this one afternoon in 2022 as the soundtrack to a cinematic video for my gaming YouTube. You can watch the video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gaL_pCVct0o. 

I used plugins like Spitfire LABS and BBC Symphony Orchestra to create an orchestral soundtrack sound. Maybe due to my choice of mostly orchestral instruments which are naturally EQ'd, the track doesn't sound bad at all.

My computer science professor used a simple Python beat sequencer to introduce arrays, and practically challenged his students to remix his beat. So I sampled the drum and bass sounds from the video, remade his beat, and went from there.

FL Studio created some *interesting* artefacts when working with the kick drum sound, and the bass sample was plain cursed! Overall, though, I'm pretty pleased with the result.

Remixing this track helped me grasp the basics of FL Studio in preparation for self-producing a track later this year!

Being friends with her was far more rewarding than being in love with her. Maybe love shouldn't be the end goal?

I turned this idea into an almost uplifting acoustic song. It was also my biggest collab yet - Matthew created folk vibes with the violin while Juan and Samuel (from Peru and Finland) added breadth to the backing vocals.

Feàrn filled in the rest, tying it all together to fulfill my vision for the last song focused on this story, the end of the first era of my music.

Friendship And Love

Looking back at a could-have-been romance where I didn't make a move, I couldn't help but wonder - were we really just friends, or was there something more between us?

Based on Harris's remix of I Loved You, this is essentially a lyric version of the original instrumental, borrowing phrases from its shelved lyrics and several musical elements from its score.

I managed to write in two of my signature elements - French lyrics and a recorder part. Harris added an 80s flair to the track with his signature polished synths.

Last week, I'm almost sure I walked past someone I parted with on bad terms six months ago. I told myself if I saw her around uni, I'd try to give her the souvenir I brought across the world for her and say the final things I wanted to. But in reality, I knew I'd be too scared to approach her.

So I really like this girl I met, but I know so little about her - including whether she's single. That won't stop me writing a hopeful song conveying the feelings I could never communicate to her...

[WIP] Anything For You

The fear of losing our friendship stopped me from admitting how I really felt until it was too late. This is the story of another love that could have been, had I not been fated to fumble it.

Truthfully, the chorus of this track has a different inspiration - looking at old friends' social media posts and realising that we've all grown and changed since we knew each other.

Though this track is missing some of my signature elements, it heavily features the most important one - collaboration. Aaran created a soft rock atmosphere with his guitar playing, while Akshat and Jack helped me achieve a choral effect with layered backing vocals. This song also features some of my strongest solo vocal performance to date, recorded in a real studio for the first time!

This track is due to be released on the two-track single "Repentance" later this year.
