Most of the free VSTs I have include some space-y presets. So, I combined a couple and made this. I ended up using it in a game jam game: https://invaderj.itch.io/protect-the-plants

I was also procrastinating working on my album by making this track. The album is scheduled to drop in September.

Alone in Space

My thoughts kept returning to someone special. No matter what I was doing, or what I was thinking of, I really couldn’t get them off my mind. That’s what this song’s about - the rest of the lyrics are filler. 

I found it quite hard to record the vocals for this one. That’s a lesson learnt for next time – I need to make sure I can sing the part while I’m writing it. So, I cobbled together my best shot, combining lines from different good takes.

This song was produced by Feàrn, a friend of mine. With on-point production, he significantly improved the song with some backing vocals he threw in for fun. I couldn’t have done it without him.

Daydreaming

This song is about the realisation that life has moved on. The time for you to be with the one you love is over. I wrote this song to come to terms with the fact that we will never be together.

This song was produced by Harris Hall (https://soundcloud.com/user-165963817), a friend of mine. Using his expertise in electronic production, he created the song’s synthwave sound with 80s synths and reverbed drums. I couldn’t have done it without him.

“My greatest challenge during the production of Is It Over was probably troubleshooting the mixing and trying to get the vocals to be heard well. Feàrn (the producer on the other track) actually gave me some advice on this.”

Is It Over?

This is another track written for a game. I stole some elements from We Used To Game, but improved the energy of this one to fit fast-paced gameplay. It should work as a loop.

[WIP] 1v1 Me Right Now

You won't understand this unless you're from the Sector's Edge game community. One of my friends wrote the lyrics about another member of the community, and I rapped them over a royalty-free beat I found online. I only spent about two hours on this so it's pretty rough around the edges!

Being soft rock inspired, this song is a fair bit more upbeat than my previous releases. The song has no French lyrics and no recorder solo, replacing those with some half-baked physics references.

A love song to a star sung by a moon, it remembers their past friendship (and love) as the moon longs for either one back. This, however, is impossible. Interpreted that way, the lyrics are actually bleaker than my earlier songs...

[WIP] Star

This song is about difficult goodbyes. Maybe getting them over with quickly makes them easier.

I challenged myself to make a complete song in four hours again, and this time I succeeded! Starting off by recording the vocals, I then wrote simple synth and bass parts, copying the notes from the synth for the violins. I experimented with a beat but couldn't finish it in time and decided to remove it. I've come a long way since I attempted this challenge a year ago in March 2022!

Star

I made this one afternoon in 2022 as the soundtrack to a cinematic video for my gaming YouTube. You can watch the video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gaL_pCVct0o. 

I used plugins like Spitfire LABS and BBC Symphony Orchestra to create an orchestral soundtrack sound. Maybe due to my choice of mostly orchestral instruments which are naturally EQ'd, the track doesn't sound bad at all.

Shockbyte Cinematic Soundtrack

My computer science professor used a simple Python beat sequencer to introduce arrays, and practically challenged his students to remix his beat. So I sampled the drum and bass sounds from the video, remade his beat, and went from there.

FL Studio created some *interesting* artefacts when working with the kick drum sound, and the bass sample was plain cursed! Overall, though, I'm pretty pleased with the result.
