Anniversary of a Miracle

Viktor wouldn’t hurt a fly. Well, that’s just a saying, right? I’m sure he would still feel bad about it, though. As towering and scary as he may seem, I’ve come to know what a softie he really is. Not like he hides it, anyway. On a day we had been out doing some errands, we were crossing a bridge over a calm river when the wind had suddenly picked up and blew my hat away. I reached out to grab it and just barely missed, then Viktor--briefly checking to make sure no one else but us was around--transformed himself into a bat and flew straight over to retrieve it. Reverting to his normal form, he made a bit of a splash in the river but did manage to grab the hat and wade back up to the grass. 

I rushed over to catch up with him, and as I got closer I could see he was not only drenched, but on the verge of tears. I asked if he was okay, and he confessed that he was feeling terrible about accidentally trampling a few flowers on his way back. I couldn’t help but laugh a bit. I thanked him for going out of his way like that for me, and told him about how we can propagate those flowers so they’d be able to grow again. With that, his expression very quickly brightened up. Viktor might hurt a fly, but he certainly couldn’t live with himself if he had so much as hurt a plant.
