Taken from their new joint effort, ‘The 5 Elements – Water & Air‘ EP, to be released via @aiworecords in the coming weeks, our premiere finds @jan-schulte and @djnormal4 going in for an high-altitude cruise across celestial canopies and cloud-shrouded mountains. Based on a very subtle work on percussions and rife with a lush array of exotic instruments such as woodblocks and panpipes, N4’s “Hypnormal” dub works its blissed-out downtempo magic to perfection, fully geared towards casting an intense poetic light on the dancefloor – no matter the time of the day or energy level of its audience. "When Octo Octa sent us the demos for her first full-length record since 2013, we were floored by how many tracks were single worthy. But, there was one that stood out as something entirely on its own, a song that in many ways sounded like nothing Maya had ever released. Since the beginning, we always knew we wanted to do something special with "Adrift," the 8+ minute space-age synth-dub techno tune. When we asked Maya about doing a 12" with remixes we were blindsided to learn she has NEVER had any of her music remixed before. Following their debut release of revulx’s self-titled EP, Montreal based label @cosmictonesrecords is set for its second release later this month. Montreal Pleiades is an EP long in the making, featuring tracks from six separate producers from across Canada’s underground scene. Ura-Dust, @mattsalaciak, @priori-ties, @duste1, @Bunzinelli, and @richardwenger all feature on this collection of spacey, dubbed out tracks. While each track brings its own flavor to the table, each selection features the peculiar textures and sounds which define the Cosmic Tone aesthetic. 

Having designed the album artwork himself, Bunzinelli’s B2 track “Hyperloop” is easily one of the standouts. Jumping right into the almost jungle-acid bassline alongside an IDM breakbeat, the track thrusts itself forward with dreamy pads and an additional low end groove to accent the rhythm section. Each element occupies its own particular space, working with each other to keep a clean and clear mix. With everything else drenched in reverb and hollowed out, the drums cut through and punch above the rest. Minimal synth melodies delay and drift into the background as the beat continues to twist and shift with fills and breaks. It’s a heady workout for warming up the floor at the start of a long night.

The sound of rain is always different: if you find yourself in the forest, the rain envelops you with its muted but consistent rush.  If you are out in the desert or in an open field, you can hear it approaching for hours, like a reverb effect that's getting dryer and dryer. If you are in the city, you hear its complex rhythmic banging on the windows or the roof or the puddle on a street.  If you combine all of those together, you'll have a pretty good idea how Strategy's Tropical Storm sounds.  Each element in the track seems to represent some kind of rain: there is the urban rhythm, there's the desert-y synth that comes at you from a distance, and there is the muted bassline straight from the forest floor. And just like rain itself, the track twists and turns from more relaxed and gentle to more forceful and pounding, ultimately dissipating and leaving the listener with that fresh post summer rain feeling.
