Prolific yet reclusive California producer Billy Bates aka Mr Saturday is known amongst his friends as a Rad Dad & a master of Digital Dub. Connoisseurs of the genre will know that for a brief period in the 1980s, drum machines & synthesizers dominated the Sound Systems & Beer Gardens of Jamaica, & for some Dub Heads, this illustrious era represents the missing link between King Tubby & Basic Channel. Squirrels On Film is delighted to present this collection of Bates' 21st Century Versions & Rhythms that take inspiration from that golden era of Machine Dub. Over ten tracks Bates explores a wide world of warm bouncy sub-bass & cold sharp drum machine rhythms, swimming in echoes & splashes of digital reverb. Bates imbues these mixes with a vital spontaneity that pays homage to the Jamaican originators of this form, who never let the machines steal the human spirit from their work. "I've recently recorded a new project called Muladona, named after a book by the same name, about a cursed woman who turned into the devil's mule. I started recording at the peak of the COVID pandemic here in Israel, and wanted to convey the tense atmosphere of the book and of the times.
In this project I've worked with less gear, and focused more on textures, to create an eerie, haunted and somewhat distorted sound."
"Every night, the Muladona, a doomed soul transformed into the Devil's mule, visits Verge and forces him to listen to a horrific tale. Each night, as Verge huddles under his bed sheets, the monster's supernatural tales tear his soul apart."

Mule Driver is a Tel Aviv based producer, sound artist, musician and DJ, Founder and Owner of Confused Machines label, bass player in the renounced industrial-punk band Mujahideen, and half of the library music duo Group Modular.



Mule Driver’s music is a dark tribute to the sound of classic analogue machines and acid-house aesthetics, wrapped up in a unique live delivery.
Throwing beats with fat acid bass-lines into a live dynamic mix to create his trademark sound - a fusion of dark, mechanic grooves with a strong soulful and warm feeling. Perfectly authentic and true to itself.
Mule Driver has carved a unique and singular voice in the local (Israeli) music scene and beyond. Playing on a regular basis around the world alongside acclaimed artists such as Legowelt, DMX Krew, I-F, Hieroglyphic Being, Psychic TV to name a few. He is a longtime resident act at IFM festival in The Hague.

Underground hero Bill Converse returns to Dark Entries with Take Parts, perhaps his most muscular and floorfocused work to date. Converse has honed his analog craft since the early days of the Midwest rave scene, absorbing lessons from luminaries like Claude Young and Traxx. His skill as a producer has been established with releases on labels such as Dark Entries, Fit Sound, and Obsolete Futures, and his prowess as a DJ has been witnessed on floors the world over. On Take Parts, Converse peels away the layers of acidic gauze that have characterized much of his work, revealing his sharp grasp of dancefloor dynamics and DJ functionality. While the 808’s, 909’s, and 303’s are on full display, Converse does not indulge in retro-fetishism; he channels the future forward impulse of the originary rave ethos. Tracks like “Stroke” and “What You Have” pit seasick chords and analog squelch atop funky but unsettling loops. The flurry of 808 snares on “Measurement (Of What?)” nods towards both footwork and jungle, but feels ultimately planted in a world of Converse’s own. With the acid-electro masterpiece “Take Apart”, Converse implores us to both join him in this new world and reconfigure the one we’re living in now. The 6-tracks on Take Parts present a new focus for Converse, and will excite DJ’s and thrill dancers.

Le Matin
Coming from experimental hardcore techno in the 2000s, producer Charles Torris is now expressing his strange vision of the world through blends of electro, disco and wave styles, with vinyl and cassette publications by various labels (Mathematics, Dekmantel, Third Type Tapes, Lost Dogs Entertainment) and live performances (Astropolis, Maintenant, Serendip, Mechatronica). He's also active as a digital artist and game programer in Rennes, France, where he lives now.

Parallel Planet
The two long time friends Grammar of Movement and ECXO are finally teaming up as Parallel Planet on the split EP Mixtus Orbis with Le Matin via Maturre Records. Based on their music, it's easy to hear the high collaborative energy the two producers have when they're in the studio together.
These two Aarhus born producers are very inspired by the roots of detroit electro sound and have achieved their own groovy, pacy and trippy sound universe with the blend of soft analogue and edgy digital synthesizers. Two tracks for the dancefloor and one for the mind.
