The anticipation was almost too much to handle as they neared the derelict industrial estate. They'd almost forgotten this feeling after so long out of the game, but though it should have felt somewhat alien, the emotions soon came flooding back as the soft thud of a kick drum echoed nearby. How they'd missed it; the sense of freedom these spaces gave them couldn't be replicated. Nothing could come close. 

Zodiac Childs return to their own Zodiac Wax imprint for their debut album 'Atoms To Atoms', which comes split across a three piece vinyl package. Like much of their previous work, this long player is a homage to the pair's love of classic breaks and the UK's hardcore legacy, representing the past, present and future of their sound. Employing analogue synthesis and hardware they play with emotion and energy to produce a collection of tracks that transport the listener through 'the moods and feelings of a full night of rave experience'.

The 9th release on Lisbon's dance agitators Rave Tuga is on the way: an EP, available on tape and digital by local mainstay Diogo who's been loyally serving the dancefloors of Lisbon in the past few years via his sick DJing and productions. Recruits for the remixer role are other two legends of our scene: genius clubkid Stasya and spot-on dance composer Moreno Ácido

Acid and jacking flavours gladly meet again, with an added ray of local sunshine, on the opener 'Paz d'Alma'. The skillfully programmed 303 lines keep going throughout the album, on the A3 accompanied by a sick electro groove and emotional pads and some bleepy chill-packed vibes on the A4.

The B side switches gears into techno territory, with steady hi hats guiding the groove; relentlessness pervading on 'Brick & Mortar'. Stasya steps in to remix the title track with a dramatic take chock-full of hyperpop stabs, sentimental chipmunk vocals and re-constructed clubby beats, the Lisbon way. Moreno Ácido takes the scenic route with dubbed out harmonies and warm, blissed-out beats and bass.

All proceeds from this EP will go to HuBB - Humans Before Borders, a platform for action against inhumane and illegal treatment of migrants and refugees.

Reaching five years of the imprint, head honcho Dj Whipr Snipr curates the second ‘Freaky Friends’ compilation, featuring contributions from a host of label associates and hotly tipped producers for six fast-paced, heavy-hitting tracks

Leading the release, Shall Not Fade and E-Beamz affiliate DJ Swagger’s ‘Hoticewater’ blends deep oscillations with skipping breaks and shimmering pads, with Low Tape’s ‘So Delicious’ following, keeping the energy high.
Striking vocals meet trippy FX and electro-tinged drum patterns across the track, a continuation of the DJ/producer’s releases on the likes of X-Kalay and Of Paradise.
Fresh off the back of their recent ‘Sportsgoth’ EP, Brazil’s Nørus and Dj Whipr Snipr collide once more on ‘Molecular Collision’, bringing classic 808 kits, acid lines, and squelchy synthesisers together.

Classic electro sounds meet modern production techniques on LA-based Ole Mic Odd’s ‘In The House’, as robotic vocal lines meet heavy arps. Ramping up the tempo, Berlin-based Nasty Enterprises boss Nasty King Kurl returns to the label with a fast and powerful off-kilter jam, leaning on freaked out vocals and tough percussion.
Rounding out the release, Cologne’s Turk Turkelton offers up ‘Offenbachs Father’, delivering a track complete with razor-sharp drum workout and expressive synth work.

This moment had been a long time coming, years worth of training and practise came down to a short frame of around ten seconds in which all else hung in the balance. This was not a game, oh no quite the opposite.

As the floodlights dimmed he tried to drown out the noise from the rowdy and excitable crowd of onlookers who knew not who he was or what he was about. For them this was quite simply entertainment, a night on the town and chance to gloat the next day stood by water coolers and over paperwork.

For him this was much more, this was science in sport. He got ready to throw the first punch...

A collaboration between poet and visual artist Manon Alla and producer Damian Concrete, Ecran Noir is the first release in the new series of digital EPs from Paris-area label Syrinx Music, following two limited-edition V/A vinyl releases. In the matter of 4 tracks, Ecran Noir melts both artists’ universes, as well as breakbeat & poetry.
Opening track “Elle Fera La Morte” immediately displays these aesthetics: breaks and poetry complement each other, Manon Alla’s words and voice amplifying Damian Concrete’s production’s expressive values. In return, Damian Concrete creates a striking atmosphere, on which Manon Alla’s extimate poetry finds new depths. Reaching uptempo, “Ecran Noir” goes even further: just as Damian Concrete’s breaks, Manon Alla’s voice is fragmented, recomposed, in an ideal fusion of both dimensions. “Coeur Sclérosé” keeps the intensity high, while final track “P.S.” shows us the darker side of this collaboration, with music and voice marching together.
Ecran Noir was built after Manon Alla & Damian Concrete met each other of Toulouse-based webradio Egregore in 2020. It is based on words that are to come on Manon Alla’s poetry book, Le Ciel a besoin d’espace: this EP was an opportunity for her to experiment with other dimensions of her poetry, and work on the sonic aspect of her words. A member of the Sons of Achab duo, Damian Concrete is used to expressive productions working at the crossroads of styles. As a whole, Ecran Noir resonates with Syrinx Music’s aesthetics: an open conception of electronic music, in the middle between the club & the laboratory.

For the fourth release of Zurich based @anaram-records, @ORTRA presents four club tracks on the Scattered EP (NRM003). As much as they diverge in their production approach, they are held together by an overall mood, which draws in the listeners.
Antre opens with a fast-paced 4/4, driving bass, scattered breaks and dubby pads. Vigil perpetuates the atmosphere with a half time, bass-heavy beat, startling arps and otherworldly synths. 12subcult08 is a ride through syncopated beats, subaqueous tones, ravey break sections, changing tempi and an introspective verse central section. Scatter07 unifies ORTRA's love for industrial, broken percussion, glitchy samples, synth jams and heavy bass.

Milan is a true music freak and vinyl lover with over a decade of DJing experience and co-runs the ever evolving Mechatronica, a Berlin-based record label, promoter and collective founded in 2012. 

Heavily influenced by the West Coast Sound of Holland and Berlin’s nightlife culture, his mixes touch upon all genres within alternative dance music. For HN11, he cooked up a thrilling mix of moody soundscapes, heavy percussion, trippy rollers and a pinch of classy electro.
