𝑷𝒓𝒆𝒎𝒊𝒆𝒓𝒆: Kakeru - Broken Bubbles [SC022]

There is a new artist from Japan followed by the name Kakeru who is giving his Shaw Cuts debut with „Raw Courage“, telling the story of an emperor besieged by an army who then entrusts his child to the Black Dragon Clan heading off to a dangerous journey.
An attempt to usurp the Ming Emperor's throne by the sinister martial artist simply known as „old monster" and his armies results in most of the palace being massacred. „Quagmire“ and its vibrant percussive pattern carried by a heavy broken kick and a driving bassline help the emperor’s infant son to escape and put in care of the Black Dragon Clan.
En route they are attacked by government forces but rescued by two knights. They prove to be a valuable addition to the party in subsequent encounters with their pursuers. „Mirror Forest“ and its laid-back atmosphere, mysterious vocal snatches and shining pads carried by an expressive drum pattern help the travellers parrying every sneaky attack on their journey.
Trying to head to the White Dragon Clan in order to seek for help, the squad has to masquerade and take several battles, always protecting the baby in tow. The razor-sharp percussions, corrosive bass and thrashing kick of „Swaying“ tremendously supports the warriors in each fight.
Finally they make it to the temple of the White Dragons where they show their Black Dragon seal as a sign of solidarity. But all of a sudden the mood changes. „Broken Bubbles“ and its menacing atmosphere built up by a monstrous sub bass, reduced but impactful drums and subtle synth elements underline the potential threat. Did they walk into a trap? Is there enough energy left for one big fight? Raw courage is vital now.

“Over the years, I let go of hard-hitting industrial techno and EBM synths - it just stopped resonating. My body literally started to contract at the very sound of it, so I took the hint. I gravitated toward more intricate rhythms and spacious sound design, which led me into the vast realm of bass music, now at the forefront of my selection next to electro and breakbeat techno. Things may change, but at the core, I always have the most fun chasing grooves in rhythmic chaos.”

N SKA is a DJ and experience creator, part of irl.berlin and the @fraktionnimmersatt rave collective in Berlin, and co-founder of the @sfora_art festival, where she led its creative direction until 2024. Since then, she's been active in festival production across Europe and has explored awareness work and sustainability practices in the industry.

As a co-founder, he has long shaped the label’s uncompromising DIY ethos—placing experimentation, raw energy, and community at the heart of its vision. After releasing in a series of acclaimed platforms, the forward-thinking DJ and producer from Vyronas, Athens returns to vinyl with a genre-defying release. Building on the experimental pulse and reshaping the edge between electro, breaks and techno, Romphea continues that trajectory,
weaving together tense polyrhythms, warped melodic fragments, and cavernous spaces.
This release features four, plus three digital bonus original tracks, aiming to provide a clear sound identity for the artist. The A-side opens with “Calls from Salem”, a dystopian slow burner that sets the tone with broken-beat percussion and dissonant synth stabs. “Steel Chair” surges forward with unrelenting force, propelled by serrated arpeggios and a barrage of fragmented vocals that rise and fall within the space, crafted for peak-time eruption.

Flipping to the B-side, “Paid Dividends” reaches full intensity, layering hammering kicks and percussion, while the low end rumbles with tectonic weight, amplifying the energy to fever pitch. Closing the record on a more contemplative note, “We Are The Universe” slows the pace, easing the tension and drifting into deeper territory. Echoing chords drift into space, layered with fragile percussive details and low, throbbing pulses. It’s a meditation on collapse and renewal, offering a moment of breath after the storm.

Extending beyond the physical record, this release comes with three extra digital exclusives. "Moonlighting" is another dancefloor stomper, capturing the tension and guiding dancers into a space where time dissolves, while in "Keygen Music", the rhythm remains grounded, but it is softened by melodic fragments that swirl in and out like fleeting memories. The release closes with "The 286 Theory" as a fierce statement: a four-to-the-floor cut, with layers of percussion that drive the groove forward, bringing the record full circle.

OTON’s Alliance returns with 9-track album ‘Fiber Bundle’ from Parisian artist Solma. We highlighted the Belgian imprint & party series a few weeks ago with OTON’s own album & now OTON takes on the role of mastering engineer this time around. 

Solma has been bubbling within the vibrant French psychedelic scene for a couple of years. He launched his own label Virtual Forest Records with two friends in 2021 & kicked it off with an EP of his own. Since then he’s released on a number of other labels including Crescent London, Melifera sub-label Polën who we’ll be featuring in our Label Spotlight interview series soon, & Jan Swam’s Organic Signs, where he released his debut album ‘The Consciousness Of Plants’ at the start of this year. 

‘Fiber Bundle’ has this fierce, haunting atmosphere throughout the entirety of the release. The only beatless track on the album, ‘Skaub’ sets the tone for what’s to come & pulls you in right away, painting the picture of a cold & distant landscape. It evokes imagery of some kind of ice-covered otherworldly lifeform, part organic & part machine, taking deep breaths of a gassy alien atmosphere. 

Solma’s ‘Fiber Bundle’ will be available both digitally & on CD from November 7th on Alliance Records.
