American producer @black-light-smoke steps up to deliver the 374th edition of the IA MIX Series, interweaving a subterranean masterclass of deep club sonorities, bolstered with his own edits of classic tracks from Maurizio and Chip E.

Originally from Chicago, Jordan Lieb studied in Massachusetts before relocating to New York in 2001 to pursue a career in music. He met Francis Harris (circa 2010), whilst Harris was looking for a studio to mix down his debut album ‘Leland‘. This initial friendship blossomed into a mutual kinship that resulted in Jordan releasing the first two vinyl releases on @scissorandthread.

Jordan's second studio album ‘Ghosts‘ is a woozy deep house LP packing 15 chugging grooves, analogue synth melodies and sultry vocals that will appeal to the deepest of house heads. In the interview below, we find out more about the makings of the album, its cryptic artwork, collaborations with vocalist Léah Lazonick and his long-standing admiration for all things Terre Thaemlitz, alongside studio gear and his approach to using social media.

A perfectionist by nature, he commits to disruptive, magnetic rhythms, all assembled with a curious mind deliberately free from restraints, forming a hyper-vortex music experience.

Rest assured, the trooper Dutchman strikes with sweet bullseye precision on the brand-new treat of an IA MIX 381, hammering sound selections sourced and refined on his laboratory work table. Mechanical whirrs and a barrage of bolstered beats crackle in this tasty execution from Gamma Intel—setting forth a blaze hard to quench. Feel the warmth.

American producer @strategydickow steps up to contribute the 382nd edition of the IA MIX Series delivering a stunning chill-out and downtempo podcast for expansive headphone listening.

Across a 20-plus year career, and as many releases, Paul Dickow operates at the crossroads of ambient, dub, and electronica. His most recent Strategy album, 'The Wet Room', his 20th album to date, was released in November 2023 via Community Library, the label Paul co-runs with David Chandler. It feels both timeless and of its time, fusing elements of climate anxiety with a heady aura of leftfield sonics.

Throughout his discography, Strategy has collaborated with esteemed labels including Kranky, 100% Silk, and Peak Oil, among others, as well as operating his own Community Library imprint, for an output as vast and varied as it is consistently stellar. He's as comfortable crafting hardware-focused, DIY techno as he is spinning long form experimental suites.

Strategy's mix is as wide-ranging, unpredictable, and eclectic as his music, spanning Humpbacks, Seefeel, Laurie Spiegel, and Strategy himself. It's an ideal soundtrack for expansive headphone listening or the strangest, grooviest pool party in the neighbourhood. In addition to the mix, we asked Paul all about his history, the Portland music scene, and tour memories.

Stepping up to contribute IA MIX 383, Alex Albrecht (@melquiadesmusic) delivers a live set from the Natural Order festival in the Australian state of Victoria. Based around improvised, unreleased solo works, this is a gorgeous piece of ambient-leaning electronica. The energy of the set pulsates through your speakers, transporting you into a hypnotic, meditative journey. Alongside the podcast, Alex was kind enough to answer some of our questions and shed light on his musical background, the underground scene in Melbourne, and how the natural beauty of Australia continues to inspire his music.

Sam Purcell had been circling the peripherals of the underground music scene long before launching Blank Mind, the UK-based record label, in 2011. An early urge to create music settled quickly in his youth, eventually morphing into roles for the persistent interest in chronicling sound. A few adventures in this order stand out as wisely articulated audio narratives – exposing a quality of his innate nature and intellect as evidently visible in Blank Mind’s discography.

Each release on Blank Mind hits with precision, never missing a nerve. The clouds passed by ever so slowly as he watched from the window of the aeroplane. It were as if they had been painted atop a dense blue backdrop, a constant presence against which they might float. He knew that they must move, burst or vanish at some point but for now they were happy floating above the noisy world below, happy in ignorant bliss of the wild west down there.

There was something to be said about the sky, for the birds found it to be home, a place to escape when things get a little too loud.

As they weaved and wandered between the clouds, he wondered if it might be better to stay up here, rather than return to earth.

Ludwig A.F. features on a splendid compilation celebrating twenty five years of Live At Robert Johnson. The longstanding record label and club remains a stalwart of the underground and the compilation sees them invite friends and family to contribute to the ever progressive sound that the Frankfurt institution has become known for.

Ghent-based record label Viernulvier gear up to issue the debut album ''wow, x' ' from Brussels-based abstract virtuoso maya dhondt...Our pick from the album is third track 'untitled'. Providing a satirical French monologue to her audience, the track transcends the misplaced feeling of being lost in translation with a dewy-eyed piano introduction morphing into a superstorm of deconstructed frequencies intermingled with a hyperactive chorus and bass-driven oscillations.

Juno's review - Esteemed electro explorer Emile Facey aka Plant43 is back on his Plant43 Recordings imprint. Despite being hugely prolific, the artist always managed to find fresh new creative ground with each new outing and Concrete Echo is no different. The title cut is a high-speed opener with shimmering lines, fizzing static electricity and drama in the chords that make you take note. 'Emerald Shift' is a broken beat kicker with raw claps and scintillating liquid metal leads while 'Raw Vectors' layers up acid wobbliness and textbook electro rhythms. 'Mist Memory' closes down with a melancholic vibe and heady synths that take you into the cosmos.
