Colorful, crisp leaves falling softly, autumn is slowly taking over in the north.  The days are getting shorter and the hushed gentle breeze is getting colder. It's a time of change, to celebrate nature's importance that is upon us, we have the pleasure to present DJ Maria from Japan for the 11th episode of the Navigare Podcast serie.

Maria has been creating a colorful 3 hour ritual of varied techno, navigating through soothing landscapes and trance-inspired parts with fragments of pure rave.

ARTIST'S BIO:
Raphael aka Taguari, is an Oslo-based DJ with a great passion for hypnotic atmospheric techno, leftfield electronic music and ambient vibes.

His journey as an DJ began in 2006 with a close friend named Dr. Getdown.

"We started collecting vinyl from funk and old school hip hop or rap and played around Munich in bars and outdoor locations".

In the following years as they played their records and moved around various events, Taguari became more involved with drum-n-bass and electronic music, and started slowly to assemble a collection of records. "Funk and rap were still in my heart, but I became more enthusiastic about the hypnotic state that techno brought into my life! The constantly changing varieties of patterns and sequences allowed endless possibilities to be creative. It was a new world for me, full of stories that wanted to be experienced".

Around 2009, started Raphael "Sunrise", a project with different souls of art and music around Munich. The group organized small raves in atypical locations like brown pubs, transforming the venue with large sound systems and art. "Our hearts were craving for creative expression to a local audience, so we used Sunrise as the platform to connect with the street. We called the events "Boazn Rave" ( a Boazn is an Bavarian word for a typical dark&dirty local pub) and for me these events were truly special experiences. A lot of what I was playing during the Sunrise project was influenced by the music, coming from the "Prologue" record label".

The end of Sunrise came in 2012 as the various members took time to explore solo projects and other pathways. Raphael felt he needed a break from the nightlife and made the decision to instead spend his time travelling.

His travel took him to Norway where he now lives and continues his passion as a hypnotic storyteller and DJ, playing at forest parties in his beloved nature or at other locations around Oslo.

"I truly enjoy being out in Nature, it's a peaceful intimate experience. It calms me down and gives me energy for the upcoming projects".

Improvised and unaltered live recording using custom electro-acoustic Wooden Machines, no-input mixing board, theremin, custom oscillator, Buddha Machines, turntable, Kaoss mini and delay...

Holographic Love

This week on Ears Have Ears our feature soundtrack comes from Brisbane’s Invisible Prism (Ricky Turner). Over the past few years, Invisible Prism has been creating introspective travelogues built with synthesisers, effects pedals, samplers, loop pedals and all manner of percussive instruments. Recent credits include a contribution to the Eclosion compilation by Duskdarter and a digital release ‘Innermost Outerspace‘ on Wood & Wire.

His soundtrack ‘Improbable Portals‘ is an exploration of ‘live-mode’ and was made in response to a recent Ears Have Ears radio program.

Eleh's influential Radiant Intervals I, originally released on CD/LP in 2010, is a meticulously nuanced, restrained exploration of the rhythmic and harmonic relationships inherent in pure analog frequencies using a blend of intuitive and mathematically based tunings. Dense patterns of sound slowly unravel and are woven together again in new ways while harmonics hover and shift overhead. Original mix from Melbourne electronic musician @FiaFiell, aka Carolyn Schofield (also of Rolling Mass). Combining her practical and theoretical knowledge as a pianist and composer with a modern ear on millennial electronic music constructs, Schofield crafts beautiful and transcendent ambient soundscapes.

'Habitual Movement' is a mix of synth improvisation edits made over 2014 to 2016, spanning from ambient pieces to more noisy, drone-based recordings. The music Fia Fiell makes is strongly rooted in improvisation, although finished pieces may build on and develop improvised recordings. This mix thus represents Fiell's music in its more undeveloped state, using excerpts that usually wouldn’t be heard publicly and she has mostly forgotten ever existed.

Invisible Prism is the experimental electronica project of Ricky Turner from Mt Nebo, Qld. Utilising analogue synthesisers, loops, effects pedals and various other sounds, Invisible Prism builds uniquely hypnotic worlds that both reward and challenge the listener. Drawing from a wide spectrum of musical influence, from 70's kosmische and sci-fi soundtracks to drone and dub, Invisible Prism's sound has perhaps been best described as "Peculiar, galactic and perplexing" (AU Review). Following the release of his first EP "Innermost Outerspace" (Wood and Wire), Ricky continues to release music while honing a raw, freeform live show that's never quite the same twice.
