Inyahed Signalman At First Sacrament, Tangent Gallery, 11/13/15

Inyahed Signalman is a collaboration between a post-human who lives eons in the future on a technologically sustained world suspended at the event horizon of a super black hole and a guy from the basement of Detroit underground techno--Ypsilanti, Michigan.

Inyahed's future half lives in a world without techno. Plummeted into a joyless, systematized existence when it lost techno, post-humanity functions with crystalline perfection in its eternal unchanging state, no longer able to turn the double-edged sword of technology into a means to achieve primal states through music and dance. Nostalgia and competition suffice as a veneer of creativity and fun. Inyahed's present half started receiving the signals around 2012. Techno had reached the future, they said. Across space and time, the faint signals from techno's foundational first decades had reached post-humanity, or at least reached Inyahed's future half. Only he cared to listen. Listen and imagine a future that hadn't lost techno. Feverishly, he assembled his bilocational apparatus, zeroed in the massive dials, and began to transmit earth's best techno back to earth, to broadcast its own signal, to stop his own future.

A deadhead, child of jam band culture's approach to psychedelic dance music, and avid student of all things avant garde in music, Inyahed's present half was a bit surprised at first. Especially when he noticed that these techno signals weren't coming from somewhere else--somewhere out there. Sure, they came from a different location, a different Inyahed, but one that happened to be also exactly where he was! The bilocational experiment successful, the circuit between present- and post-humanity secured--the Inyahed Signalman collaboration seeks to create techno experiences that enable you to bilocate with your post-human other and dance into the new future.
