For our second Hydra event mixtape, we present another master of experimental sounds, founder of Amulet of Tears music label, a resident of Radio Vilnius, and our close friend and collaborator - Andrej. This recording, is a prelude to the beginning of the Hydra event, as Andrej will be the very first artist to open the stage on Saturday at 2pm.

Hydra is an open-air musical act for niche music lovers. Next to the flooded villages, Ghia, HAARP, and Insurgency teams invite you to a familiar formula: fresh air and experimental electronic explorations. On the side of the Kruonis hydroaccumulation power plant, surrounded by the Kaunas Marios Regional Park, next to a large body of water formed several decades ago. With one purposeful stage surrounded by the nature of central Lithuania.

Third Space has firmly cemented himself back into that head-snapping drum ‘n bass percussion he initially poked his head through. While his recent jaunt for Longform Editions reached into smeared and smudged time portals, stretching time into its most razor-thin edge, this release brings these two worlds together in harmony. Although, those abstract whirlpools have reappeared, through noise and blown out static-as-percussion akin to Emptyset, Ikeda etc. etc.

Throughout dot points, there is an acute awareness around how much solid ground to allow an audience. An instinctive ear for rhythm and texture pushes composition to its limits but keeps more recognisable elements an arm’s length away, keeping immersion consistent, constant – an idea that’s been in Third Space’s work from the start. The tracks are daringly short but remain fully fledged songs, rich with layer and consideration, percussion building as lyrical prose, unwinding stanza by stanza.

While definitely drifting back into the realm of dance music, this is not Third Space leaving drone and tonal shifts behind him. This is merely dipping his toes back into the water of the world he first started in, ready to contribute something new after coming up for air.
