About the label concept:
Tokyo-based DJ/producer Iori Wakasa has been producing music for over 15 years and releasing on a number of quality labels in Japan and abroad, but his primal sensibility has never felt 100% completely in tune with any existing labels in Japan or abroad, and he has never clearly belonged to any label, He never remained a clear-cut member of any label, group or collective.

He launched BOTANICA in order to "express himself by regarding the label activity itself as an artwork", based on two main concepts: the fusion of the senses of "nature" and "man-made and human activities" and "providing music that offers a view from each listener's perspective". 

For him, 'Botanica' is both a kind of interface and a symbol of his musical expectations of himself.

Through his projection 'Botanica', he has learned over time that "music and vibrations affect every human being, plant, animal and even man-made object in the world and are essential to explaining the present moment, all of which can be seen, heard and felt in a wide variety of ways, unique and individual to the person who touches them". Each of them can bring about a unique and individual view in a wide variety of ways, depending on the person who touches them." By turning the perception and sensation of "the world of the world" into something tangible, we want to offer those who come into contact with "BOTANICA" the opportunity to dive into the depths of a new self.

The two tracks and artwork on the label's first EP are the first step in writing and documenting the story of the forest he is in now and the new vortex he will weave with the label, and at the same time clearly point to his future direction.

Iori Wakasa, one of the leading lights of the Tokyo club scene is set to release his second 12” from his own label, “BOTANICA” which he established to express his own primal sensibilities.

The Concept of the Label:
Tokyo-based DJ/producer, Iori Wakasa launched BOTANICA to assert that his label’s activities in itself is art and a palette for his creative, self-expression. It is also based on 2 main concepts: To integrate the sensibilities of both "nature" and “artificial and human activities" and to “contribute music that presents a scenery from the listener's point of view”.

For Iori, his label is an interface of some sort and is also a symbol of his own personal musical expectations.

Iori produced these 2 new tracks during the recent pandemic when the world was under severe restrictions. While taking into account and focusing on both 'his current outlook' and returning to “the roots of his own production aesthetic', he strived to produce something that would substitute it and as a result, created these two new tracks and the artwork that are presented in the label's second release, 'The Party Is Here EP’.

In this EP, he also attempts to express the sentiment that 'the experience that music provides to people is invaluably infinite' and that 'if you truly want to go out and party, it will happen, then and there!’.

About the tracks:
For the track, ’Bedroom Disco’, Iori tries to express his memories of 'a virtual night of partying’ that he experienced during Covid and created this track while being ‘in a state of wanting to break free from oppression’ and reminiscing about a party in a bedroom at night.

He also wanted to express the idea that no matter what situation or environment you are in, you can go to anywhere you want if you really want to and with that sentiment, he wanted to express a scenerio that transcends it and at the same time, he also wanted to convey his feelings of nostalgia for the past, rebellion against the environment and his feelings of desire.

For this track, Iori did not use any sampled voices or field recordings and created it by layering pure sonic imagery repeatedly folded and desolved which triggered the creation of new developments while imagining the thought that “a party actually begins when you step out” and the swaying of emotions that take place from it.

’Tropica' is a track that Iori produced by heavily mixing a utopian feel that people have inside of them with his own sensuality and is designed to ‘guide you to a tropical seaside', regardless of what the listener may have experienced in the past.
Unlike 'Bedroom Disco', this track uses a variety of samples and envisages "many elements intertwining with each other, working together to create this sound structure”. And it also expresses that equal opportunity exists for anyone who wants to visit an imaginary tropical land as well as the hope that even a brief break of the mind can be created by yourself and those close to you, if one pursues it.

'The Pure Land' is a musical work shaped around the image of 'returning to your primal self', evoking a hypnotic and pleasant euphoria through a spatial sound design of layered rhythms and soft particles.
Pure Land means 'Gokuraku-Joudo' in Japanese, but in English it is closer to 'utopia' or 'paradise'.
People tend to think about a world they cannot see or feel, but the ideal world exists individually for each person who envisions it, and there are as many different landscapes and forms there, and as many different visions that can be seen by as many people as there are people.
The layered, spatial sound design liberates the listener and is shaped with the aim of guiding them towards their primal self.

'Lunar Down', by contrast, expresses the long period of time between moonrise and moonset, particularly the change of human state of mind that occurs as the moon sets from its zenith, and is built around a textured bassline and a focus on 'maximum impact on the dance floor', with voice samples that occasionally echo in the brain throughout the rhythm track.
The night is a time of emotional change that does not exist in the daytime, when the moon climbs brightly to its zenith, the stars are hidden, the moon's influence value on living beings, which has become a symbol in space, is at its maximum, and the time of setting from its zenith includes a kind of end and, in parallel, the unknown that is to come.
It is an image of a time when one can face and think deeply about oneself and, on the other hand, an amplification of the feelings of ritualistic excitement that the night and the moon can bring to a person in an unconscious way.

'Our Spirit Runs Deep' on an other note is an invitation to consider dance music as something more than simply disposable. Maybe there can be some deep feelings to it, a shared and communal experience, as long as you 'walk along with us'! For such a topic, it mattered to have a sensible soul on remixing duties. Established japanese producer Iori Wakasa released tracks on labels such as Botanica, Dessous, Sound Of Vast, Get Physical, Saw and Highgradeoffers to name a few. He presented his own interpretation with his 'Camp in the Mountain Remix'. If it does convey the airiness of the heights, his remix also reminds of
the warm, dense and overwhelming density of a Tokyo packed club. What's your interpretation?

Tokyo based Japanese DJ/ Producer, Iori Wakasa has consistently released his production and remixes from an array of labels such as S Tokyo based Japanese DJ/ Producer, Iori Wakasa has consistently released his production and remixes from an array of labels such as Satoshi Tomiie's Saw, Steve Bug's Dessous, The Police's Sting's daughter, Eliot Sumner's Baastard, Todd Bodine's Highgrade, Get Physical, Sound Of Vast, among others. 

In September 2023, in order to express and manifest his own senses, he has been working on the main concept of ‘fusing the senses of “nature” and “man-made objects/human activities”’ and ‘providing music that allows each listener to see the scenery from his or her own point of view’. Under the main concept, the record label BOTANICA was launched with a distribution contract with the prestigious German label Word And Sound, and the first title, BOTANICA EP, was released. The EP has been played and supported by Move D, Nicola Cruz, Rick Wade, Steve Bug, Delano Smith, Satoshi Tomiie, DJ KENSEI, Kenji Takimi, Tony Lionni and many other artists, and has toured 18 places in Japan and abroad. The label launch tour was held at 18 venues in Japan and abroad.
The track ‘The Pure Land’ on the EP was nominated for the 30th Japan Professional Music Recording Awards in the analogue disc category.
A second EP, ‘The Party Is Here EP’, is due to be launched in June 2025.

With a unique DJing style, he weaves together a wide range of sounds including House, Techno, Minimal, Jazz, Funk, Downtempo, Disco, Balearic, Chill Out, Breakbeats and Ambient, with a focus on "chaos" and “sophistication" to create a distinctively organic, sound universe that swirls the dance floor into preeminence. 

When you experience his music internally, you will be transported into a supernatural subterranean zone that feels like a deep and warm enclosed forest.

Iori was born on a small island surrounded by the sea and mountains, to a family that regularly played classical music and from an early age, started playing the piano, to freely infiltrate his emotions and sensibilities. 

At the same time, he was also drawn into electronic sounds of video games music via the influence of his father as well as becoming fascinated by the spirit of rock music, especially punk. 

At 17, he began to like the music of Even Kick and became fascinated by the sounds of post-rock and ethnic music while going to tours of temples and shrines across Japan and made a trip to Indonesia as well. 

He also began going to clubs during high school which opened his eyes to the deeply alluring and energetic sounds of Detroit techno, deep house, Chicago house, click house, and black music. 
Up until then, he never thought of DJing until he was invited by a senior colleague to buy records for the first time and inevitably, he also sublimated his creative activities into music production.

Making his debut as a producer from Shin Nishimura’s Plus Records in 2011 and up until now, he has released 11 titles, 3 CDs and many other works and has received amazing support from many prominent artists around the world. 

He has also DJed with Radio Slave, Steve Bug, Move D, Ame, Dixon, Trus'Me, Satoshi Tomiie, Chateau Flight, Magda, Sis, Magda, Trus`me, Franck Roger, Pezzner, Sleep D, Fairmont, Ryan Davis, Timmy Resisford, DJ Sneak, DJ Nobu, Gonno, Ian Pooley, Tobias., Atjazz, Ben Watt, Levon Vincent, Luke Hess, Mathew Dear, Rick Wade, Delano Smith, Ken Ishii, Mijk Van Dijk, Kuniyuki, 
and has also provided mixes for John Digweed's Transitions, Tomoki Tamura's Holic, Dessous, Get Physical, Highgrade's podcasts, etc.

He regularly DJs in Japan as well as around the world and in the past, has performed at a number of parties and festivals throughout Japan as well as done 2 successful European tours and has gone to a number of Asian countries such as Vietnam, Indonesia and South Korea.
