Since the release of Mongolia Expedisound in 2006, Switch Creative Network invited the french label I.O.T Records to present the project Expedisound in Florence, Italie.
In 2008, was the time of Mongolia Expedisound, followed by China Expedisound four years later.
In both occasions, a remix contest was proposed to the local producers based on the soundbanks collected during the two trips. The aim of the contest, like the one of Expedisound Albums series, was in fact to rework the samples and create atmospheres that would invite the listener to a musical trip..
For each contest, 5 tracks has been selected that you will be now able to download and share!
A huge thanks to all producers participating, to Switch Creative and Fabbrica Europa for providing the opportunity to present the project in Italy and to all the ones that keep on supporting the project.

Six years after ‘Laika’s Take Off’ (2016) went into orbit, Minimal Orchestra explores a new sense of weightlessness with ‘Lift Off’. Earthy resonance to the first project.
 
After having ventured between space and cosmos, the duo celebrates its fifteen years of existence and friendship by offering, this time, a more grounded album. Reaction to an initial vibration, a kind of sound disturbance that spreads on the water surface, this new album undulates on future jazz accents. 
 
From floating to deep diving, these tracks shimmer warmly and reflect as many musical influences as soloist friends invited on this project. A dozen tracks at the crossroads of jazz, electronica and jungle, for a journey with sophisticated electronic and organic textures, in a resolutely luminous writing. 
 
Like ‘Piccolo and Bells’, which honors the organ, a new instrument for the group, sort of reference to Mount Kimbie. Emblematic references for ‘Flued’ too, a more progressive pop track, where we find Radiohead or Boards of Canada influences. 

This album is a moment preserved from the heavy ambient gravity, to go to the source of creativity, of the instrument. A sense of groove and a particular, delicate attention given to the melody, for an even more vibrant experience, and a freed nu-jazz.

With the Expedisound series, launched in 2004, Marseille-based label I.O.T Records built surprising bridges between cultures. Just imagine: the label's members - and their many supporters - loaded up trucks with machines, samplers, recorders and microphones, and set off to discover traditional or trance music in West Africa, Indonesia, Ulan Bator or deep in China's Yunnan.

At the crossroads of the Sound Conspiracy adventure, Real World, and field recording's quasi-ethnographic but still punk attempts, Expedisound telescoped popular or folk music from the four corners of the planet with the libertarian ideals of freewheeling electronic travellers.

I.O.T. Records now offers a new version of the soundbanks: reworked, processed and of better quality... This new ready-to-be-composed sound database features, initially, the sound material gleaned from the Expedisound dedicated to Africa.

BAGUS SEKALI MUSIC is the first Expedisound Special issue.

With its digital only format, this Expedisound explores the unique audio and visual experiments in this serie. This is the shared experiences of TETAAR WEDNESDAY, who made several trips to Bali, and CYBERSKUM, who has spent several months in Indonesia for a documentary film over seven of the largest islands of this archipelago.

Sources and result material have been made available earlier in 2005. The tracks are from the same period, and although few changes were made on the overall sound, the project remained as in the initial design… The imminent arrival of CHINA EXPEDISOUND motivated us to dig this INDONESIA EXPEDISOUND special issue up from our hard drives. Après quelques années d’absence, c’est avec plaisir que nous vous annonçons le retour de la série Kontakt ! Inclassable depuis ses débuts en 1999, cette série a toujours mis à l’honneur les beats destructurés et les breaks syncopés, sans pour autant délaisser le dancefloor ! Pour ce retour en bonne et due forme, deux «IOTies» de la première heure se sont mis à l’œuvre pour vous présenter deux visions de la série, une résolument festive (Arok), l’autre un peu plus introspective (Loan)...

Arok explore la Bass Music, s’affranchit de ses genres et en détourne les codes. Adepte du sampling comme d’un art, il puise dans ses influences afin d’extraire cette goutte magique, «Keep Making Noise», qui saura réveiller le dancefloor ! Elément du label I.O.T depuis ses débuts, binôme du duo DoublScotch, dj et producteur au sein du trio Squid and the Stereo, Arok multiplie les projets et collaborations en s’échappant des carcans, creusant le sillon d’un voyage musical sans fin… 

Loan quant à elle, nous invite dans son univers bien complexe, emprunt de couleurs sombres et d’envolées lumineuses, avec ses influences toujours aussi riches et variées : «Furioza» semble nous replonger dans les raves des années passées, avec toute l’experience acquise aussi bien dans la Techno, le Hardcore, le Breakbeat.... aboutissant finalement à une Bass Music résolument tribale.... style développé et maintenant parfaitement maîtrisé par cette «IOTie» des plus prolifiques depuis ses toutes premières sorties sur notre label !

We are very pleased to announce that after few years’ absence, the Kontakt series is now back ! From the start in 1999, this unclassifiable series has always highlighted destructured beats and syncopated breaks, not forgetting the dancefloor ! For this long-awaited comeback, two pioneers « IOTies» worked together to show you their two visions of the series, one undeniably festive (Arok), the other slightly more introspective (Loan) …

Arok explores Bass Music, frees himself from its genres and breaks out of its usual conventions. Sampling expert, he draws this “Keep Making Noise” magic drop on his influences, and it will for sure awaken the dancefloor ! IOT member from the very beginning, he’s also part of the duo team DoublScotch, and DJ and producer of the trio Squid and the Stereo. Arok combines multiple projects and collaborations, remains free from all chains so he can keep digging deep into an everlasting musical journey…

As for Loan, she invites us to join her complex world, tinged with dark colours as well as radiant soaring. Drawn from her rich and diverse influences, “Furioza” plunges us back into the raves of the good old days, intensified with the experience acquired in techno, hardcore or breakbeat music… The result is a distinctly tribal bass music, which became the hallmark of one prolific “IOTie”; now expert, she has built up her career with this very personal style.

Keep Making Noise

AROK "KEEP MAKING NOISE" (from Kontakt06 EP / I.O.T records)

DOOKOOM's second album "Riffak"is an intense hiphop concoction of a lot of different emotions,elements,ideas and sounds borrowed from various different cultures and nations from around the world. For example, "Cape Town street slang, dancehall, alternative rock,  punk, electro and dub.
Cape street slang alone consists of almost all eleven South African official languages including Khoi. This would be Cape Town's kreole.

There exists a lot of Donald Trumps in this world who build walls to divide people from each other. DOOKOOM intents to break these barriers and walls with this album. This cross-culture or "human-culture" principle is the mold that forms DOOKOOM's second installment  called "RiFFaK".
"Riffak" is the word "kaffir" backwards. The core definition of the word kaffir is "non-believer,heathen or out-cast". The word was also used negatively to describe and adress black people and people of colour during the apartheid era. Tension between different skin colours is very relevant in the world currently, so DOOKOOM turns the negative word "kaffir" around to make "Riffak". It will then mean the opposite ie "believer" and "the accepted". All people believe in something or someone and all people should be accepted in the human race without walls and barriers. All different cultures contribute to make the human race and the world. All cultures and people inspired and contributed in one way or another in the making of "RiFFaK" and the breaking down of walls that keep people apart.

Five years after releasing Return of the Astro-Goth, Yugen Blakrok descends from the vast cosmos and delivers to the world an impressive lesson in style, with her second album Anima Mysterium. Far from the stars but heavy with their radiant wisdom; it’s towards Earth, humanity and the obscurity at its core that the South African rapper directs her incantations.
Accompanied by Kanif the Jhatmaster’s beats, Yugen’s flow sows the frontiers of a world where the subconscious frees itself and confronts man with his most hidden secrets. Yugen’s poetry has something Ovidian, depicting her as an agent of Metamorphosis, a reincarnated goddess in terrestrial form calling humanity to itself.

The osmosis between Yugen’s words and Kanif’s instrumentals comes across from the first listen. On Return of the Astro-Goth, the astrological ideas covered by the rapper found a perfect canvas in the mix of wind instruments, dub and electronic echoes from the beatmaker. Here, Yugen lays hers flow over instrumentals of rock, jazz and even at times something that sounds close to witch-house. The project, released under French label I.O.T Records, extracts the essential oils from hip-hop as seen by the two artists, whose creative freedom and artistic integrity contrast with the current rigid codes of the genre. At their sides they have rallied to their musical odyssey artists from South Africa and the US, including hip-hop legend Kool Keith himself.

In April 2018, Del the Funky Homosapien and Amp Live have teamed up for Gate 13. The full-length collaborative album pairs the Hieroglyphics Veteran and Grammy Nominee with the Zion I and Unified Highway co-founder. After working together during Amp’s authorized Radiohead Remix Project, these friends from Oakland days embark on 15 tracks that fuse Hip-Hop, Funk, EDM, and more, with guests including Goapele and Eligh. 

« As they explore their overlapping chemistry and challenging music to a new place, this album may be another portal into something progressive, futuristic, and fun. »  

One year later, they Del & Amp decided to entrust these gems to some of the best beatmakers and producers around to give birth to « GATE 13 REMIX »! 
 
The first one of this serie of remixes is signed by a famous french beatmaker: Kid Loco. His ambient Trip-Hop with a touch of eroticism and always a cinematographic atmosphere has not ceased to please listeners' ears since the early 90's 

For the second remix, be ready for a complete change of scenery! 

It is the turn of beatmaker Al'Tarba, who honored us with 2 massive releases on I.O.T Records, to propose a new remix for GATE 13! 
On the forefront of the French abstract hip-hop beatmaking scene for already 10 years, he has accustomed us to his productions always tinged with a soft and yet dark melancholy... And this remix is no exception! 
Like a journey back in time, you will find yourself projected into a 1920s bal musette from the very first bars... 

May I have this dance? 

For this third and final single remix, announcing the imminent arrival of the album GATE 13 REMIX, it's up to the leading beatmaker of the French label Banzai Lab - I named Senbeï - to get us nodding to the rhythm! 
 
He revisits the track 'Help' into a glitchy, airy and exotic version with the Asian fragrances he knows so well how to imbue us with. 
 
Finally, to complete this wonderful series, on February 28th, long-time friends of the label I.O.T Records, like producer LOAN and beatmaker Kanif The Jhatmaster, will unveil their favorite track they've chosen to remix. 
 
All of them forming a cocktail as devastating as it is heterogeneous!
