Mezzo-soprano Irem Ince earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Opera Performance from McGill University in 2015. She completed her master’s degree at UBC in Vancouver in June 2018 and her Artist Diploma in 2020 under the tutelage of Heidi Melton. She took the stage as Lisa in Weinberg’s The Passenger, in the Canadian debut production of the dramatic work, for UBC’s 2019/2020 season and was praised by Opera Canada magazine for her “impressive affinity” to the role. She performed the role of Ciesca in Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi, the role of Madeleine in Puts’ Silent Night and the role of Donna Elvira in Mozart’s Don Giovanni with UBC Opera in their 2018/2019 Season. Opera Canada lauded her portrayal of Donna Elvira as “sassy, huffy and genuinely funny” and commended her for her “lovely top notes”. After her UBC Opera debut as Anna Gomez in Menotti’s The Consul, she went on to perform the role of Komponist in Strauss’ Ariadne auf Naxos, under the baton of Maestro Jonathan Darlington, with UBC Opera 2016/2017 season. Irem performed many roles with Opera McGill and at summer festivals, such as Cornelia in Händel’s Giulio Cesare and Ottavia in L’incoronazione di Poppea. Notably, she participated iSing Festival in China in Summer 2016 and gave concert performances in different cities as a soloist with a variety of reputable Chinese orchestras.
