So I was taken aback when Facebook posts started shouting about "Prove It All Night" and people were talking about this amazing take-off on Great Late Night Talk Shows Of The Past.  I decided to check out their June show and was impressed both with the writing and excellent collaboration of unique talent (and Pat of course). "At The Iris Kitchen Table" finally caught up with Pat Byrne on a steamy July afternoon and recorded his thoughts on comedy, writing, music and his personal journey to WFMU after moving to Jersey City. (Note: The next "Prove It All Night" performance is Saturday August 1st at 9:00 PM at WFMU's Monty Hall. It's the best $5 ticket in the New York area!)"

It's been a little over a year since we began to establish a comprehensive 12" single section at Iris. But what IS a 12" single? 

To oversimplify, a 12" single is a vinyl record - same size as an LP - that contains a single song, several songs (but generally under what would be considered an EP worth), different mixes/remixes of a single song, or a combination of both. Because of the wider grooves on the record, a 12" single often has superior sonic depth and dimension than an LP, making it ideal for playing through large club sound systems. 

With the resurgence in popularity of electronic dance music (in the United States, at least), many people nowadays are reaching back into time to rediscover the music that helped build dance music culture and the notion of the DJ-as-artist. The 12" single department at Iris strives to present this music in a cohesive manner by showcasing particular labels, artists and styles - some major, some "underground" - that were instrumental in the development of dance/club music, from the 70's to the present.

Ron Like Hell (Wrecked)

Ron Like Hell is a resident dj and co founder of WRECKED, a dance party for gentlemen and their friends who like the boom. Past gigs include The Bunker, Cocktail d’Amore (Berlin), Khidja (Romania), Output, Le Bain, Studio 54 VIP Lounge, Honcho (PGH), Honey Soundsystem (SF) to name a few and 9 successful tours in Norway. Of those past gigs, Ron has shared the decks with Prins Thomas, Rune Lindbaek , Lindstrom, Discodromo, Mike Servito, Bjorn Torske, Justin Vandervolgen, Phil South, Eric Duncan, Prosumer, Tim Sweeney and his Wrecked comrade, Ryan Smith. Another passion besides deejaying is researching and presenting music in various forms as a presenter at Classic Album Sundays, a monthly audio hi-fi vinyl album listening event created by Colleen ‘Cosmo’ Murphy. 

Yet another expression in his love of sharing music are his years of record shop experience working for Academy Records Annex, A-1 Records, The Thing and as a sales and store manager for Satellite Records from 1998-2005. Ron owns quite a large collection of obscure and underground music of all sorts on vinyl and is loaded with many unreleased edits of his own and by others so prepare yourself for a set full of freakish disco, exceptional underground house and beat heavy rock styles mixed together with love and an appreciation for the dance.

Producing & mixing a soulful blend of deep, electronic and ancestral rhythms, he's known for his technical approach, thoughtful selection, fuel injected sets and a style that you feel way before you hear.

Evian's music has been described as "his delicate falsetto...wounded and seductive, with dreamy guitars and twinkling keys."
