My very first composition to get shared on Soundcloud! This is a simple piece written for harp that I composed a little while. It's based on a dream I had. I was swimming underwater. The atmosphere was wonderful, serene and time seemed to pass at a slower rate. I wanted to convey that in this simple and lingering piece. Enjoy!

Underwater - Composition for Harp by Iris Stal

This is an experimental composition for organ. Organ is an instrument I definitely want to compose for in the future, so this was a great practice for me. Despite it being a bit cringy, I'm really proud of it. It's a stepping stone towards better compositions. Some parts are really nice!

The funny thing is that this was initially supposed to be a piece with a lot of anger and darkness, but it turned to be cheery and lively.

Organ Experiment - Composition for Organ by Iris Stal

This piece is very close to my heart. It's my very first composition. Last January, I challenged myself to finally compose something. I wrote it for a university assignment for a course on interdisciplinary evolution. Because there was a deadline, I couldn't procrastinate so I eventually had to create something. It was a lot of work but it was so much fun to do! I couldn't believe I actually did it when I finished the project. This very much inspired me to continue writing music.

This piece for orchestra is supposed to express how colour vision has evolved throughout its evolutionary timeline, using musical colours. Our eyes use cones to detect the colours in the light waves that we pick up. In the music, I attempted to explain which cones came up with which group of animals and how that affected the way they saw their environment. If important, I also tried to take important events or circumstances along in the atmosphere, such as natural selection influences or extinctions. I followed the lineage from one of the very first light-sensitive eyecups all the way up to human eyes. Lineages that branched off I didn't include as it would be too much.

Colours of Life - The Evolution of Colour Vision Expressed in Musical Colours - Iris Stal

Hello! I'm Iris and I'm here to share my musical compositions! Music is a huge part of my life and I hope to share that with the world. I play the flute, recorder, guitar and some other smaller instruments.

It's my dream to make a career out of music, either as a flutist or music composer. Right now, I'm planning on exploring a myriad of genres, including classical, Celtic and oriental.  At the moment I'm only sharing MIDI-files but I aspire to record the compositions using my own instruments soon.
