UK lyricist and poet Rider Shafique and American-Caribbean singer-songwriter Fikir Amlak deliver two vocal flips on Iron Gate Sound’s Cornerstone riddim.

This powerful songwriter maintains the essence of Jamaican roots music, while pushing the envelope in multiple new directions.

Masicka is the multi-talented, 19 year-old Dj, singer and songwriter on the verge of breaking into the tightly knit circuit of the Jamaican dancehall scene. Masicka is sure to be a big hit in dancehall music and is seeking to bring his one-of-a-kind style to international prominence. Today, Masicka is hailed as the next rising star in dancehall, with hot new singles, Guh Haad N Done, Whine Up You Body and No Big Deal getting heavy rotation on local radio stations, such as Zip 103, Hits 92 and Fame FM. Masicka has also been recently featured on some popular reggae/dancehall radio shows in the United States and UK.

All of this airplay is greatly appreciated by the young Dj, who sees all the attention as reaching another milestone in his career. Masicka has already been fortunate to work with a variety of today’s talented dancehall producers over the past year. Producers like Equinoxx Music who are responsible for some of Masicka early works like “Anno Sumtime”, “Watch” and his new single, which have everybody attention “No Big Deal” . The song have created such a buzz in the music scene both here local and international that a video for it as recently been shoot by RD Studios. He as also work with G3 Musik, TJ Record, Cash Flow Records, Notnice, One Motion Music and Crash Dummy Productions who are producers of His break through single “Guh Haad And Done” which video was recently added to MTV UK program and also made for available for viewing on Time Warner “On Demand” Cable. Masicka is thankful to have the opportunity to work with so much people and is humbled by the support and response he as been receiving for his music. “Guh Haad and Done” was also the title for Masicka recently release mixtape of the same name. The tape was well received by fans and had more than 2000s downloads in two weeks.

Masicka began his career as a promising local Dj with a lyrically insane flow of melodies and harmonies which can only be described as “Sick” or better then the average in terms of his delivery. His musical journey started by performing at local talent shows and competitions in his hometown of Independence City in Portmore, more popularly dubbed by Masicka as “Sin City”. There were many talented Dj’s in Sin 
City for Masicka to learn from and compete against and the place became a training ground for Masicka in which he was able to build his sick lyrical style. Masicka continued to develop his special talent while attending Calabar High School. He was dubbed “The Future” by classmates and teachers alike, after toppling all competition with his advanced word play. By the time Masicka left Calabar, he had gained the acknowledgement of all there that he would likely become the next young recording artist to take over the dancehall music scene. Interestingly enough, Calabar is a school well-known to be a producer of some other great talents, including one of the greatest lyricist and Dj’s of this generation and perhaps in Jamaica’s history, the artist known as Vybz Kartel. Masicka’s flow is rapidly becoming known by dancehall enthusiasts to be similarly incomparable to that of Vybz. Like Vybz Kartel, Masicka is blessed with a crazy, sick lyrical ability and rides upon dancehall’s most current riddims with a swagger that is unmatched by most others. Masicka is a vivid storyteller who is able to bring you with him to experience the life in Sin City on his records. The Masicka buzz spread quickly throughout generating across the local scene and soon became island wide. A cult following developed and by the time Masicka made his first official television appearance on Hype TV in 2009, he was already tasting stardom. Once again, Masicka performed extremely well as he went on to win Hype TV’s Dj competition, securing for himself as first prize, a recording session with Equinoxx Music. He was also awarded the first prize in Cash Flow music competition this past summer. Every day Masicka seems to make a new fan as more people, whether in Jamaica or internationally, become familiar with his music. Gain recognition through is various television appearances (Hype, TV RE TV and CVM) but also gracing the pages of various newspaper and magazine in articles and interviews. His team One Motion Music has set up a substantial web presence for Masicka. Masicka certainly has come a long way. With that focus, calm and determine presence that utter the confidence of his hit single “No Big Deal”.

Masicka - Guh Haad and Done (White Label Riddim)

Sizzla Kalonji, or simply Sizzla (was born Miguel Orlando Collins, April 17, 1976, Kingston, Jamaica) is one of the most commercially and critically successful contemporary reggae artists and is well-known for his above-average prolificacy.

Sizzla was born in Kingston in 1976 to devout Rastafari movement parents. Like them Sizzla subscribes to the Bobo Ashanti branch of the Rastafari movement. He was raised in August Town, Kingston Jamaica where he studied mechanical engineering at Dunoon High School.

The 1980s witnessed a dancehall explosion, and with the music came the lifestyle: drugs, guns, and "slackness" (vulgarity). Formally adopting the Rastafari faith, with its advocacy of repatriation to Africa, he joined the ranks of the Bobo Ashanti in the mid-1990s.

Sizzla began to develop his own style whilst serving his musical apprenticeship with the Caveman Hi-Fi sound system. He has used his music as a vehicle for his message, kickstarting his recording career in 1995 with a release through the Zagalou label, he then teamed up with "Bobby Digital" Dixon for a series of singles. Extensive touring with fellow roots and culture artist Luciano followed, earning Sizzla notability. 
Homer Harris, the same man who named and mentored Buju Banton got him his first break, introduced Sizzla to top Jamaican saxophonist Dean Fraser, the musical director for Philip "Fatis" Burrell's Xterminator Family. 1996 marked an important turning point for Sizzla when he began working with Fatis. This union led to a run of successful singles and the release of Sizzla's debut album, Burning Up. 
The two allied again a year later with the follow-up, Praise Ye Jah (JetStar). Praise Ye Jah was quickly trumped by his release of the Dixon-produced Black Woman &amp; Child that same year. The title track was a smash hit and became something of a cultural reggae anthem. Sizzla scored several more hits during 1997, including "Like Mountain," "Babylon Cowboy," "Kings of the Earth," and the Luciano duet "Build a Better World." This hot streak kicked off an enormously productive recording binge that lasted over the next several years, with much of his output still done for Burrell.

Along with universal praise came Sizzla's first nomination for Best International Reggae Artist of the Year at the 1998 MOBO Awards and a place in various magazines' top 100 albums of the year. Sizzla has since released several dozen albums, including 1998's Kalonji and Royal Son of Ethiopia from 1999. 1999 also saw him receive his second MOBO nomination. Sizzla remains a constant presence in the reggae charts worldwide. Currently, Sizzla has 21 albums that have made it onto the Billboard's Top Reggae Albums music chart, the highest Words of Truth, reaching the peak position of #5.

Sizzla Kalonji has released over 45 solo albums and over fifteen combination albums, crossing different genres of Reggae. He has started his own record company, Kalonji Records; which in a joint venture with Damon Dash Music Group and Koch Records, released the album, The Overstanding, in November 2006. This was his third album released through Kalonji Records; as well as Black History and Life.

Sizzla, along with reggae recording artists such as Capleton, Buju Banton, and Anthony B, are credited with leading a movement toward a re-embracement of Rastafarian values in contemporary reggae music by recording material which is concerned primarily with spirituality and social consciousness, explores common themes, such as Babylon's corrupting influence, the disenfranchisement of ghetto youth, oppression of the black nation and Sizzla's abiding faith in Jah and resistance against perceived agents of oppression.

Sizzla's 2008 effort, Ghetto Youth-ology, is produced by the Firehouse Crew, the same who produced Sizzla's debut, Burning Up.

First single taken from the Upcoming "Different Hours" EP

Sydney collective Iron Gate Sound come in heavy with Wickedest, the first cut off their forthcoming EP. Making a name for themselves online, Iron Gate Sound have developed a strong following dropping mixtapes, mashups and dubs from some of the biggest names in Jamaican music. With this release, the long-time stalwarts of the Sydney reggae-dancehall scene find themselves diving deep into hard-hitting UK grime and dubstep influences.

Wickedest features the magnetic vocals of the UK’s RTkal, commanding with energy and unrivaled flair over solid basslines and heavy industrial drums. The grimey production shows a new direction for original Iron Gate Sound members Flip and Gilsun, now officially joined by long-time friend & collaborator Kid Fiction. “The UK grime and dubstep sound has always been a big part of what we do, especially in our live shows”, says Gilsun, “producing an EP focused on that sound and working with vocalists of this caliber has been an incredible experience for us”. 

The release also marks the return of Iron Gate Records, an Australian imprint that has already worked with some of the biggest names in reggae and dancehall such as Sizzla and Lutan Fyah on the 2014 Lion Inna Den riddim release.
The Different Hours EP will drop in late 2019 and features collaborations with vocalists from the UK and Jamaica including Chiedu Oraka, Juiceman and dub poet Michael St George.

A progressive bass culture collective out of Australia, Iron Gate Sound has been a mainstay of Sydney’s reggae-dancehall scene since 2012. The brainchild of Flip and Gilsun, the collective has dropped a steady stream of mixtapes and independently released music under its Iron Gate Records label which they founded in 2014.
 
Working with dub, reggae, dancehall and grime artists from Jamaica and Europe, Iron Gate Records has always maintained a connection to roots even as it has sought to develop, reinterpret and innovate new sounds.
 
In 2014, Flip and Gilsun worked with some of Jamaica’s finest vocalists, including Sizzla and Lutan Fyah on Lion Inna Den Riddim and collaborated with Addis Pablo and Suns of Dub on the Jah Jah Solve Dem EP.
 
Between 2015 and 2018, Iron Gate Sound released a steady stream of mixtapes including Dubplate Mashdown and Dubs Fi Di Road – the first 100% dubplate mix out of Australia.
 
In 2019 Sydney-based music producer Kid Fiction joined Iron Gate Sound, bringing his unique texture-focused electronic music production to the collective. Iron Gate Sound has recently delivered a burst of releases featuring appearances by Manga Saint Hilare, Shanique Marie, Chiedu Oraka, RTKAL, Fikir Amlak and Jamaican dub poet Michael St. George.
