Solid Steel (25th April) 20 years ago Nas released his legendary Illmatic album and DJ Moneyshot has put together an outstanding tribute mix 'Nas - Half-Man Half-Amazing'. As with the previous tribute mixes for the Beastie Boys, De La Soul and Public Enemy, it's more an audio documentary threading together sample sources, interview footage and remixes alongside the original Illmatic tracks. Hear the vocabulary, the flow and the rhythm expertly delivered by Nas, backed up by the sublime production of Pete Rock, DJ Premier, Large Professor and Q-Tip, plus original samples from Lee Erwin, The Heath Brothers, Ahmad Jamal and Reuben Wilson. All this deconstructed and rebuilt by Moneyshot for another classic Solid Steel edition.

Already an accomplished artist releasing and touring as a part of his main squeeze, rumor has it this side project will blossom into something quite spectacular in 2017. It's been about a year, the time felt right to make another Slinky mix. For those unfamiliar, this is a series of mixes I do occasionally, where tracks are intentionally stretched and slowed down. Transitions and overlaps are purposefully drawn out, the way these tracks slowly wind together becomes a point of focus, as opposed to an invisible, smooth transition. This mix evokes the passage of time, which has needless to say felt quite strange this year. Grains of sand in constant motion, always shifting and blowing, yielding a detailed pattern that just seems to repeat, and repeat, and repeat...

Happy to share a new mix with you.

I’ve been obsessed with the multimorphic nature of time. Since March, so much has happened, yet nothing has changed. Every day is a copy, but yesterday feels like a distant dream. Time is abundant and infinite, yet I wonder where it has all gone.

My recent meditations have been extremely vivid. They’ve reminded me to embrace the now, which has diluted into always. Maybe I’m experiencing eternity, a taste of immortality. Sounds like something nice.
