A storied artist with a rich seam of high-quality releases to his name, Nicolas Rada is a welcome addition to the Meanwhile catalogue with a superb twin-track offering in the shape of “Glasgow / Riot”.

Operating out of his Buenos Aires home, Nicolas Rada has been at the forefront of the Progressive House scene for almost 2 decades. As part of the artist roster under the Analog Agency banner, Nicolas has travelled the world, spanning the continents with performances in Australia, Mexico, Ecuador, Spain, Netherlands, Hungary, Scotland, and not forgetting his Argentina homeland.

Contemporaneously, a production career has seen Nicolas Rada scale rarified heights. From early work and almost a century of credits on Balkan Connection South America, to work on Lee Burridge’s Tale & Tone, Nick Warren’s The Soundgarden and fellow countryman Hernan Cattaneo’s Sudbeat Music, the Argentinean star has shone brightly in the underground dance firmament with over 400 production credits to his name.

Now gracing Meanwhile with his sizeable talent, “Glasgow” is a typically powerful offering that revels in a thumping beat, off-beat hats and running 16th note bassline. Picking up the pace in the second movement, subtle melodic motifs begin to accentuate the rhythmic collage as they seamlessly develop over the 8-minute timeframe. Atmospheric pads and steam-pressured white-noise risers add to the overall feel as “Glasgow” hits its height in delay-infused melodic patterns that propel it forward to an epic conclusion.

The cleverly named “Riot” immediately excites with its complex rhythmic arrangement and bassline narrative that extends the vibe of its partner track. With bouncing phrasing, it syncopates effortlessly alongside a cascading array of melodic characters that build in dizzying fashion. Using vocal samples drawn from the classic “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas” film, first used by the likes of Chicago’s iconic progressive breaks act, Grayarea, the spoken word melds effortlessly with the shimmering synth stabs and textured pads. The result is a 24-carat modern progressive jewel that sparkles from start to finish.

Rauschhaus and Cary Crank, have once again joined forces to deliver Bekal and Tapestry of Perception, two deep, melodic, and danceable tracks that epitomize the essence of progressive house. 

Rauschhaus, hailing from Kiel, Germany, has been producing and DJing since 2010, releasing tracks and remixes on labels such as Stil vor Talent, Parquet Recordings, and Einmusika. His music is characterized by deep melodies and driving rhythms, making him a respected figure in the progressive house scene. 

Cary Crank, based in Frankfurt, Germany, transitioned to Progressive House in 2018 and has since released numerous tracks and remixes on labels like Mango Alley, Univack, Steyoyoke and his own imprints Sunexplosion and Cranking Sounds. His releases regularly chart on Beatport, reflecting his growing influence in the genre. 

Their previous collaboration, Unknown Territory, released on Forevermore in April 2024, showcased their ability to blend deep, melodic elements with danceable grooves. With Bekal and Tapestry of Perception, Rauschhaus and Cary Crank continue to push the boundaries of progressive house, delivering tracks that are both emotionally resonant and rhythmically compelling.

Never one to let the grass grow under his feet, Selador head honcho (job share) Steve Parry has reacted to the challenges of 2020 (which, as we are contractually obliged to note, are very much of the unprecedented variety) in the way all true creatives should – by just gettin’ busier.

Having been on a studio roll in 2019 (see Control Machine with Luke Brancaccio on Selador and Don’t You Ever Stop on Bedrock), the lack of gigs in 2020 has freed Steve up to go into overdrive as a producer. Having opened the Selador year with Spion 10 (in those heady, far off days when we were still allowed out into the after dark netherworld), he ruled summer’s virtual dancefloors with the irrepressible Fenner.

Having enjoyed support from numerous tastemakers, Steve completes his 2020 Seladorian release hat trick with a mighty double header, in the shape of Roll the Dice and What You Make It.

With the label’s goal “to showcase the best in house and techno and all the flavours in-between”, it’s no surprise to find one of the men charged with delivering on that promise so adept at doing just that himself with his genre-defying output.

Roll the Dice is relentless, its beats pummel like a panel beater possessed, its core riff buzzes like a fly stuck in a roller blind, riding a bullet train of a bassline – but gradually shimmering keys come to the fore as the epic crescendo is reached.

What You Make It twists and turns, tweaks and teases, a teutonic vibe to the fore as Steve channels both the acidic madness of peak Hardfloor and the metronomic magnificence of vintage Kraftwerk into a heady 2020 brew.

While our world remains on hold, and our dancing remains housebound, we suggest you reinforce your living room floor for these beauties.
