This week on Topshelf we are delighted to have with us Bristol-Based Italo Disco DJ/Producer Emmet Read.

One of the fresh young faces representing the new wave of Italo Disco in the UK alongside PADDY, REES, RED & Tech Support to name a few, Emmet Read's tight production, gorgeous synths and captivating bass lines are truly something to behold and have lead him to building an already impressive back catalogue of Italo anthems including tracks ‘Happy People’, ’Dxheaven’ and one our absolute favourite in ‘Humans’.

We’re at the start of a very exciting career, that seems set to reprise one of the most glorious decades in music and we are so there for it.

'Who Goes There', the debut collaborative release from JBS and @ambient-babestation release arrives on @optimo-music bathed in reverence to science-fiction and the infinite, charged possibilities of interplay between raw electronics and the human voice. Both well-respected figures on the London underground scene, each of the four tracks across the EP are inspired by film and literature, expanding well-worn VHS classics into sonic mini-sequels.

The voice of Ambient Babestation Meltdown will be familiar to anyone who has spent time lurking in the further reaches of Sky television’s hundreds of channels, a recognisable register in the Adult Entertainment industry, work that has naturally informed her work and artist persona. 

‘The Other Place’ is a piercing and heavy anti-anthem that returns from the deep cosmos, liable to slowly stretch a rift in the space-time/dancefloor continuum.

For our 38th release we're happy to present formerly unreleased studio material from 1996, that we found hidden deep in Jan's and Alex’s vaults. The four dubbed-out tunes were part of a row of session recordings, done by the guys in autumn that year. They share a free minimal spirit and were recorded with a limited and beautiful sounding analog setup in a small room in a Berlin backyard.
 
The uptempo “Sinter” is a mesmerising, puristic Electro piece, the never-ending “Karst” more on the Techno side, featuring wild, flanged percussions and an extremely driving baseline. “Stalaktit" & “Stalagmit”, both slower, are nicely oblique, industrial, obscure but sometimes almost funky analog jams.

Bio:
London based Isaac Reuben is a DJ and Producer that’s difficult to pigeonhole. Playing across the UK from a young age, Isaac is adept at reading a crowd, both on warm up duties and later in the night. Isaac is currently both resident and founder of a UK based vinyl only night, centred on DIY club spaces and channelling that pre internet age energy.

A prolific producer, his music has been featured in legendary mixes such as the Essential Mix and the fabric mix series. He’s also a regular on the esteemed Hotflush label and its subdivisions, with productions ranging from driving Techno, leftfield Bass, to vocal-inflected House and has provided remixes for artists such as Glaskin, SCB and DART.

Isaac’s expansive record collection is drawn on regularly outside the club environment, with appearances on Rinse FM, Threads and Loose FM. He’s also now producing and hosting the newly revamped bi-weekly Hotflush on Air, and as effortlessly as he does often, will step away from harder club driven music in favour of hitherto unheard rarities alongside the best in new
