"La vita delle conchiglie" (for 2 performers and amplified ensemble) is the first piece of a cycle that deals with the world hidden inside the shells. The piece, as well as the whole cycle is somehow connected and inspired by a Francis Ponge's poem.
"La vita delle conchiglie" (The life of the shells) was premiered by the Ensemble Phace conducted by Nacho De Paz in the Wiener Konzerthaus on February 2021.

Notes: 
I've had these windup toys for years. Purchased them, initially, for their bright colors and size to run tests on a program I'd built for a completely unrelated project. Though immediately their potential began whispering. 
The related soundscape between these toys and the piccolo is obviously a central idea to this piece, the clicking and the pitched noise, but there is also something very tangible about the relationship of the winding down/winding up function in the toys to that of breathing/the lungs of a flutist that became the underpinnings of this piece.

I recorded a little improvisation I did on the piano this morning.
All sounds are created using an e-bow circuit machine built in collaboration with Jan Bernstein and Mickey van Olst, with the support of Villa Médicis. No electronics, no amplification, what you hear is simply the vibration of the piano strings.

Oriental Love - Limbo (Paral·lel Rmx)

I am a composer from Saint Paul, Minnesota, currently based in Basel, Switzerland. I write music which explores gradations of resonance and texture through expanded approaches to playing instruments and making sounds.

My music has been influenced through studies with composers such as Stratis Minakakis, John Mallia, Timothy McCormack, and Caspar Johannes Walter and performers such as flutist Carlos Aguilar; members of JACK, Ravos, and Partridge quartets; line upon line percussion trio (Austin, TX); Ensemble Modern (Frankfurt); Barcelona Modern Ensemble; Quartetto Maurice (Turin) at programs such as the Bludenzer Tage zeitgemäßer Musik, the Banff Centre for Creativity, Yellow Barn Young Artists Program, New Music on the Point, Valencia International Performance Academy, Ticino Musica Festival and Freie Universität Berlin im Sommer. I have also participated in masterclasses and worked with composers such as George Lewis, Chaya Czernowin, Stefano Gervasoni, Miya Masaoka, Dmitri Kourlianksi, Christian Wolff, Zosha di Castri, Marcos Balter, and Sabrina Schroeder. Upcoming projects include a large-scale work for solo electric guitar and electronics for Jamie Monck and a quartet for saxophone, percussion, piano, and performer for myself and ex-sentia (Basel).
I graduated with my Bachelor's degree in composition at New England Conservatory in Boston, where I studied with John Mallia and Stratis Minakakis and am currently pursuing a Master's degree in composition at the Hochschule für Musik FHNW in Basel, Switzerland, studying with Caspar Johannes Walter.
