Felix Felix Benedikt, alias Alpha Tracks, is a producer based in Vienna, Austria. At the beginning of the millennium, he received his basic musical education under the wings of Erdem Tunakan at Cheap Records and started DJing. From 2012 till 2018 Benedikt worked at TONGUES, a Viennese record store with an in-house studio, where
2016 the project Alpha Tracks was born. The first release on Erdem Tunakan's reactivated
label Morbid has had a strong international resonance.

The music of Alpha Tracks is mainly produced live on analog machines, often with different guest musicians, focussing less on technical fetishism than on live dynamics of studio collaborations. The result is a sound that refers to the rave era of the early nineties. Alpha Tracks blithely ignores tempo limits or taste doctrines. Aesthetic taboos or even fragments of often maligned genres, are not picked up as a retro fetish but are folded into the contemporary oeuvre with playful
Viennese charm.

The seventeenth episode of our mix series showcases Philipp Drube, who’s DJing career started with his first gig in Hamburg 2011. After a couple of years he moved to Berlin where he co-founded Space Trax label with Frank Heise.
His meticulous and hand-tailored sets focus on fast-paced techno and different faces of trance. A blend which earns him appearances at Berlin’s most established clubs as well as several worldwide bookings.

In this mix, Philipp reflects on the moods he experienced during some cold and dark January days in Berlin, paired with a wave of inspiration that came after the Space Trax showcase at RSO in mid January.

Originally rooted in Hamburg’s underground scene, Philipp Drube started to play gigs around 2011 before relocating to Berlin in 2013. 𝙑𝙎𝙇𝙆: How was your first DJ gig?
𝙋𝙃𝙄𝙇𝙄𝙋𝙋: My first gig was at an open air in Hamburg. The weather was great, lots of friends were there and I was crazily nervous. But everything clicked, and afterwards I was full of adrenaline and happiness.

𝙑𝙎𝙇𝙆: Label management, event organization, DJing - where is your personal comfort zone?
𝙋𝙃𝙄𝙇𝙄𝙋𝙋: DJing remains my main focus, as it’s been the most consistent part of my journey. That said, I truly enjoy working across all three areas and especially like to bring them together through curated label showcases.

𝙑𝙎𝙇𝙆: What inspires you to keep going?
𝙋𝙃𝙄𝙇𝙄𝙋𝙋: Dancing, digging music, good conversations and travelling are first coming to my mind here..

𝙑𝙎𝙇𝙆: What’s your connection to space?
𝙋𝙃𝙄𝙇𝙄𝙋𝙋: I’ve always been fascinated by astronomy and science fiction. Discovering worlds beyond our everyday reality gives me a form of mental escape, allowing me to break free from the present and get new perspectives. This fascination also laid the foundation for the label I am co-running — to channel visions of the unknown galaxy and future into a unified concept of music and design.

𝙑𝙎𝙇𝙆: What’s your main goal for 2025?
𝙋𝙃𝙄𝙇𝙄𝙋𝙋: I finally want to visit South America.

From 2012 on, Benedikt worked at TONGUES, a Viennese record store with an in-house studio where in 2015 the project Alpha Tracks was born. The first release on the reactivated label Morbid had strong international resonance and Alpha Tracks has continued with highly acclaimed records since.
