Dr. Isabelle Bichindaritz is an assistant professor and Director of the Laboratory of Informatics and Artificial Intelligence at the State University of New York. She previously served as assistant professor at the University of Washington, Institute of Technology, Computing and Software Systems, a position she held for nearly nine years. Her work at State University of New York, where she has been assistant professor since September 2012, involves instruction in biomedical informatics, decision-support systems, and data analytics. She is also involved in the University’s research into case-based reasoning, machine learning, and artificial intelligence as it pertains to biology and medicine.
 
Bichindaritz earned her Ph.D. in Computer Science at the Université René Descartes in Paris. Much of her research work is centered on intelligent learning systems and how they are applied in the fields of biology and medicine. Her work is primarily focused on case-based reasoning, data mining, and biomedical uses for artificial intelligence.
 
Dr. Bichindaritz has held the co-organizer position in the last five Case-based Reasoning in the Life Sciences workshops, which were co-located with the International Conferences and the European Conferences on Case-based Reasoning. She also played a major role in the organization of the first two Data Mining in the Life Sciences workshops, which were co-located with the Industrial Conferences on Data Mining.
 
Over the years, Dr. Bichindaritz has published more than 100 scientific papers. She has also served as editor or co-editor for a number of special issues for medical journals, among them the Artificial Intelligence in Medicine journal special issues, the Computational Intelligence special issues, and the sole Applied Intelligence special issue on Case-based Reasoning in the Life Sciences. Among the scientific journals that Bichindaritz has published under her name are Case-based reasoning in the health sciences: What's next?, Case-based reasoning in care-partner: Gathering evidence for evidence-based medical practice, Medical applications in case-based reasoning, and Mémoire: A framework for semantic interoperability of case-based reasoning systems in biology and medicine.
