I wrote Breathe during a breakup with the first person I had ever fallen in love with. I was at my lowest point, and I would get these really bad anxiety attacks where it felt like I couldn't breath. Breathe is essentially about being so heartbroken that you feel as if you can't go living your life without that one person. On the other hand, Breathe is also about the sadness and anxiety that comes with wondering about whether or not you and your ex will ever get back together. Not long after my break up, we started talking and hanging out with each other without anybody knowing. I didn't know how to be alone with myself anymore, or how to get through each day without that person, so when we began to reconnect, all I could think of was about the future of our relationship. Breathe is about the struggle of navigating a broken relationship with someone that you're still in-love with, while at the same time, trying to cope with a broken heart.
