Taking inspiration from his surroundings deep in the Tulum jungle, medicine man LUM takes us on an otherworldly trip, delivering a truly stunning EP for Crosstown sub-label Rebellion, featuring a remix from American duo Bedouin.
 
“The ceremony starts in the jungle,’ explains LUM of the EP’s journey, ‘‘Urpillay’ calls the spirits and asks permission for the celebration. It’s warm, deep strings and pianos lead us to connect with the inner self and mother earth. Bedouin brings the jungle to the dance floor with a powerful remix’. LUM goes on to say, ‘the trumpets, percussion and the angelic voice in ‘Plegaria’ are to say thanks. ’Baaxal’ is a reinterpretation of Mayan music, the spirit of the jungle present. 90 bpm, hypnotic, and 741 hz to awaken intuition. The deep voices of the tribe in ’Canto de la Tierra’ reminds us to live in harmony with the earth. The flutes are the sound of the earth, wind & bamboo.”

Das Trio @treibgut eine reine Improvisations-Band und stellt sich immer einfach so mit ihren Instrumenten und Geräten vor eine Menschenmenge. „Die Inspiration kommt dabei aus dem Moment und dem Zusammenspiel zu dritt“, erklären die Musiker aus Hamburg. Manchmal seien es sogar eigene kleine Fehler, die die Idee zum nächsten Track liefern würden. „Am Ende eines Gigs in der Hammahalle des Sisyphos ist dann irgendwie der Track „Phosphor“ entstanden. Das ist zwar auch schon wieder eine Weile her, aber irgendwie hat er uns nicht losgelassen, so dass wir ihn unbedingt aufnehmen und veröffentlichen wollten.“ Gesagt, getan. [Liner Notes]
Vocalist, multi-instrumentalist and producer Bora Uzer teamed up with Mynox and Amsterdam-based DJ and producer Vander to create "Let It Breathe". Birthed on a never-ending day of February in Turkey's dynamic city of Istanbul, this piece fuses elements of electronica, deep house, and modern pop. The lush vocals of Bora convey a certain epicurism and invite us to let go and accept life.

This EP is complemented by the alternative versions of psychedelic duo Pandhora, British talent Shunus, and Volt Milano residents Sound Shapes. Pandhora crafted a progressive & melodic reshape incorporating jazzy chords and upbeat grooves. Shunus came up with a different story, slowing things down with his downtempo sound signature and a relish of western vibes. To wrap up this release, the Italian duo Sound Shapes infused their remix with deep sounds and decided to go for a tense atmosphere which suits afterhours dancefloors perfectly.

"Rokia Traore is a brilliant singer and guitarist from Mali drawing on the deep musical traditions of her country to create modern Afro-pop.  She wrote her first songs in the mid-90s under the artist direction of another Malian legend, Ali Farka Toure.  Her mysterious, mature  voice hypnotized me many years ago when I saw her on her first tour to the US.  I was inspired to give her gorgeous song "Dounia" a slow-burning down-tempo house edit.  I love the song's melody, structure and how she builds the intensity over the length of the composition."
