I glare out of my window, but I’m looking at only you 
You stand there, gazing out of yours too but 
Instead you’re observing the rest of the world 
Brushing it with the glistening of your eyes
You have fascination deep within you as if it were unfamiliar 
I can read you like a book 
I’m on the outside looking in and 
It feels like a lighthearted paradise for you 
The sun beating down on your soft skin as you tread through the meadows 
Not a worry in the world 
You’re so bewitched by the melodious tune of the birds on a beautiful summer day
The scent of fresh dew floating through the atmosphere 
And as if it were your first step into the world
A soothing smile dances upon your lips 
You never want this moment to fade away 
It seems as if it could be everlasting and 
You try your hardest to hold on because 
You have finally tasted the bitter-sweetness of your happy place 
As the seconds roll by in your trance of a daydream, the vague memories begin rushing through your head and 
Before you know it, everything you grew to love disappears

not all happy places last forever | a spoken word poem

I lie here with a head full of suppressed memories 
And I can feel your presence as if you were next to me
I'm a little frustrated right now, 
and I'm sorry you had to see this 
I want it to be right so
when I see you again, you can be proud of me 
Proud of the man I'm becoming
Proud of the man you want me to be 
Proud of your only son
Mother, I want you to be proud of me 

Sometimes I feel like you're disappointed 
because I don't always make the right choices 
Feeling like everything I've accomplished 
will amount to nothing 
In hopes to be someone 
Someone who is better 
Someone who becomes something 
Someone who you'd be proud of
Mother, I want you to be proud of me 

I glare into the mirror 
I am not the son you always knew 
Resting my hand on the glass 
While lowering my head,
The teardrops start to fall onto the floor 
And it's finally clear 
that you're no longer here 
I'm still not adjusting to it 
after all of these years 



Behind all the laughter, behind every forced smile 
Was a lot of unending pain that nobody knew the answers to 
The doctors were wrong
The pills were wrong
You needed anything to erase the pain 
But for how long ? 


Now that you're gone 
There's an empty hole in my chest that is incomplete without you 
I'm being suffocated by all of these mixed feelings
Like a black hole that sucks me in 
and leaves with me with a lot of hurt I can't learn to deal with  
I close my eyes and hope that when I open them
You will be there with a smile on your face 
But the pain won't allow that
It doesn't fade that easily 
Why does it have to be like this ? 
Why would you want to rip the happiness out of someone's lifeless fingers 
I'll hold onto your memory and wait for the moment I get to hear your voice in my ears 
Whispering "good morning son, how did you sleep?" 
Mom, I had a nightmare that you left this world 
And God took you away, so we can't see you anymore
But mom, I don't want you to go 
Stay here for me, I know you're in a lot of pain 
We'll work on that and we'll cure you
But by then it was too late
Nothing but harsh memories left behind when she passed away 
Everything has changed 
The streets are cold and the skies have turned grey 

Out of school for a week bec I didn't wanna show my face
To the ones who don't know my story
They'll just act fake and console me 
because they don't wanna be the bad guys 
They don't care about her or the boy whose mom had died

We all wear one

To hide the feelings inside

But you can’t outrun yourself

When you look behind, you’ll find

Your shadow is still lurking nearby

Only to morph itself into the darkness thats inside your mind

You’ll one day realize that you need to fight every obstacle you face

But you don’t wanna burden the ones you love because they’ll only blame themselves for your heartbreak

As if it were their mistake

In attempt to keep your tears at bay, you want to elaborate and explain why the pain is too much to deal with

But you keep your lips sealed, concealing every feeling that bombards you with every waking moment

You’re so broken, overflowing with emotion

You’d rather overdose or blow your head open

Then have your lifeless body dumped into the ocean

These suicidal thoughts flow in and out like waves inside your brain only to be replaced by the fake smile that dances upon your lips

Wearing long sleeve t-shirts only to enshroud the scars that are carved into your wrists

And all you feel is bliss when the blood begins to drip from the slits

Before you know it, your life will quickly slip between your fingertips

Life is short, never take it for granted

Never say you’re never good enough

Because even tho you don’t know it, you’re surrounded by love and things will get better

But it takes strength and it takes time

It won’t take a day, it won’t even take a night

We’re in this together, you are not alone

Don’t mind the dreary thoughts inside your dome

Put em aside and untie that rope

With a lot of faith and a lot of hope

You can overcome this and you’ll learn to cope

We all wear a mask

But you don’t need to be afraid to hide from the feelings inside

You have the power to address them with confidence

Don’t suppress them or let them be forgotten

You are never wrong to let your emotions show

You are who you are and your issues are your own

The ones who judge, point, and laugh are also morose but too insecure to let the world know

They have yet to take off their mask as they pretend to not have a soul

But everyone is welcomed, let your voice be heard even if it’s filled with anguish

At first, it’ll feel like you’re choking on the words that don’t want to surface like your neck is being strangled by a serpent

We all wear a mask

It is not what defines us

It is nothing but a manifestation that the world fails to overlook

Some are consumed by it’s persona others let it disintegrate within the flames of their anger
