"A Hymn for Change" was composed in the spring of 2020 with a sense of Covid 19 raging through the country. This is an updated track of that song which is meant to "book end" and connect the two titles "For a Better Tomorrow" the next track listed below this one. Same tuning with a complimenting voice. This is part 2 of some improvisational recordings I made with Pat Howell's beautiful handcrafted-from-a -kit dreadnought acoustic guitar.  Part 1 details the guitar's journey a little more and here I wanted Pat to hear his guitar in drop D tuning, and I thought you'd like to hear it too:)

For My Friend--Part 2

This instrumental piece evokes the feeling of being elsewhere. We don't really know where. The image on the cover would seem to say that it is the sky and yet... no one can really say so much the cycles of this piece seem at the same time imperturbable while remaining secret in the metric of the score. Calm and yet seeming to make one feel the backwash of the wave, this piece thus seeks to question space and its perception rather than to attempt to give a single answer. "Ci-git l'espace", a magnificent and famous work by Yves Klein, could be the other title of this musical composition, which resonates with this desire not to necessarily show what we expect to hear or see.

Ce morceau instrumental évoque le sentiment d'être ailleurs. On ne sait pas vraiment où. L'image de la pochette semblerait dire qu'il s'agit du ciel et pourtant... nul ne peut vraiment le dire tant les cycles de ce morceau semblent à l fois imperturbables tout en restant secret dans la métrique de la partition. Apaisé et pourtant semblant faire ressentir les ressacs de la vague, ce morceau cherche ainsi à interroger l'espace et sa perception plutôt qu'à tenter de donner une réponse unique. "Ci-git l'espace", oeuvre magnifique et célèbre d'Yves Klein pourrait être l'autre titre de cette composition musicale qui résonne de cette volonté de ne pas forcément montrer ce que l'on s'attend à entendre ou à voir.

'Sleepy Time' is a soothing instrumental guitar lullaby from board-certified music therapist Ryan Judd. It is played at the tempo of a resting heart rate, based on research about music for sleep. Ryan's delicate fingerstyle playing on the nylon string guitar is enhanced by the skillful mixing and mastering of Tom Eaton, a Grammy-nominated sound engineer.

Sleepy Time - A Guitar Lullaby

From the "folk group" The Sandy Hill Exchange in the late 60's to the current day, playing acoustic guitar has been one of the driving forces in Fred's life.

While there were times early on when family and work necessarily took a front seat, a guitar was never far away and at the ready when the time of day, or a day in the week seemed best for practice and composing.

Now retired and with family on their own, Fred's guitar work draws from nature, personal experiences and inspiration from other great musicians; his music emerging as original fingerstyle instrumental tunes. Described by some as "little poems" of song.... often with unique titles, which add to the musical prose of each piece. Feel free to click on the picture for each track and there may be more details on the origins of the song title, guitar used, tuning, etc.
