Phase I - Multiple percussion duet

The inspiration for this music is directly sourced from my recent reading of The Odyssey. In this composition I have dissected what I think to be some of the many important events in the epic and composed short musical scenes for each of them. The piece tells the story of The Odyssey through Odysseus’ eyes at the moments I believe to be most pivotal.

"Sing In Me, Muse" for marimba solo

The inspiration for the title and composition occurred to me while exiting the hospital after the first hypertensive crisis I experienced. A revelation I had during this season of my life was the constant noise as well as heart breaking silence. In particular, silence we are unaware of. Silence that we have always heard but drowned out or learned to forget due to the daily turbulence of where we need to be or what we need to do.

Perplexity of Silent Rivers for solo piano

Composed in early summer of 2017 and finished in March 2018, this composition is a look into the perspectives of many different world leaders as it pertains to our country during times of peace and confusion.

I am a composer, percussionist, music educator and a current
undergraduate student at the University of North Texas studying music education.

Most recent compositional achievements include honorable mentions for the
Percussive Arts Society composition competition (2017) and the International
Percussion Institutes Call for Scores (2018)

He has studied with Joseph Klein, Christopher Deane, Jacob Thiede, and
Michael Smith while studying percussion and music education at the University of North Texas.

Current interests of Ismael are literature and the condition of the human
body in relation to the well being of the human race around the world. The creative aspect of his work usually incorporates his interests and research of those interests.

From a teachers point of view, I believe the education of our society is of grand importance, with a collective effort from composers, teachers, performers, and many others we can help bring the education of music in our schools and society back to a place of importance.
