To give the days some purpose, me, Austin Basham, Jack In Water, Alex Kozobolis and Lila Tristram set ourselves a weekly isolation challenge to each create a piece of music using the same stems as a starting off point. It’s been a great way to stay productive & creative.

We're calling this Isolation for Beginners.

Jamie chose the stems this week. They were some ghostly harmonies, a warped recording of a cassette of children's versions of classic pieces of music, a Jewish man singing in Stoke Newington, a phone recording of a little song with Will, and an instrumental piece called Excerpt.

Muscle Rememories by Jack in Water

To give the days some purpose, me, Austin Basham, Jack In Water, Alex Kozobolis and Lila Tristram set ourselves a weekly isolation challenge to each create a piece of music using the same stems as a starting off point. It’s been a great way to stay productive & creative.

We're calling this Isolation for Beginners.

I chose the stems this week that seemed to make it harder to feel inspired. In the end I used two stems, one was some ghostly harmonies that I've had on a loop pedal for a decade and the other was a warped recording of a cassette of children's versions of classic pieces of music recording using, as far as I can tell, some early synths. 

Somehow this week's piece starting shifting into the type of song a Disney villain (in this case voiced by Tom Waits) would sing in the company of a snivelling sidekick. Not something I've done before but I as risks are in the spirit of the project I went with it and apparently this is where I ended up.

It is Week 5 of Isolations for beginners. This week Jamie provided the stems. For my piece, I used parts of a piano track, a recording Jamie captured of a man singing in Stoke Newington and some harmonies from Lila.
