UK-based DJ/producer Wheats returns to Jamie Jones’ Hottrax this April with ‘Another Planet EP’, a set of three off-kilter house cuts. 

Following releases on Kaluki, Circus, and Solid Grooves and picking up support from Hot Since 82, Pete Tong, Yousef and more, Wheats follows 2020’s ‘In Your Head’ EP with another highly anticipated package of bumpy house tracks for Jamie Jones’ Hottrax imprint. 

Lead track ‘Humanic’ features Medusa’s manipulated vocals around a bed of glitchy and visceral clicks and pops, whizzing around grooving drum patterns and swung basslines. ‘Drive’, also featuring Medusa’s vocals, brings scratchy percussion and subtle rave stabs over gliding subs for an upbeat slice of dancefloor gold.

‘Insomniac’ brings a dose of the after-hours to the EP, making use of hypnotic drum patterns and energetic breakdowns, with the stuttering low end bringing the release to a trippy conclusion, marking a standout EP from Wheats on the consistently reliable Hottrax.

The summer season might be all but over, but the good times keep on coming courtesy of this latest missile from Do Not Sleep by Luuk Van Dijk with a top remix from Ben Sterling.

Amsterdam based talent Van Dijk has had music in his bones since his youth and next to laying down sets at Paradise, Awakenings, elrow, Cocoon he has held a residency at Straf_Werk and released on taste making labels like Hot Creations, Solid Grooves, and Circus Recordings. He saves his best for Do Not Sleep however. 

In the District is tight, tough, hard hitting house music with interwoven drums and bass that get right under your skin and make you move, while synths and percussion peel off the busy groove. Blunted then marries warped basslines and crisp claps with woodpecker hits. It is atmospheric, stripped back but effective house that makes an immediate mark. The remix of In the District by fast rising UK talent Ben Sterling is another brilliantly direct track with prying bass loops, freaky vocal echoes and a late night sense of mischief. 

This is another vital offering from Do Not Sleep.

3. Luuk Van Dijk - In The District (Ben Sterling Remix)

The next release on Libero comes via Milan-based artist, Fabio Vi. The Habla Music label boss delivers ‘Into The Beat’ - consisting of two original cuts, supplemented by remixes from rising UK talents, GuyMac and Josh Lee.

The title track is built on a foundation of heavyset kicks, tonal toms, cowbells and hand drums - all complemented by a catchy vocal hook. Straight off the bat encapsulating the label ethos of percussion-centric, rolling House perfectly.

GuyMac’s remix of the A-side gives it an injection of upbeat energy. Pacey rhythms and offbeat percussion keep you on your toes, whilst acid-tinged melodics gives the track some enjoyable grit. A remix full of character, with a variety of different scenes.

Next up is Josh Lee with his remix of the title track. A track with wave-like energy and swaying percussion. Driven by a huge melodic tom sequence, constant peaks and troughs make for a hypnotic journey through its many progressive gears.

Fabio closes off the release with his track ‘Cloud’, taking things down a few floors with its dark demeanour. Undulating low-frequencies drive the track forward, propelled by subtle synths and an eerie vox line.
