Attachment is a strong MIND mechanism. We are used to working very hard to regain feelings we tag as "GOOD" or "Happy". Sometimes, we go dancing and it's way off from the last time, from that happy and good time we remember very well, then we often feel stuck, weak, vulnerable, scared, and tired. From my point of view, these very moments are amazing opportunities, a time for reflection on ourselves on how we can grow, evolve, and work with our minds, while dancing. We can change everything, we just need the courage to do so.

A few years ago I was in a rebirthing session closing ceremony where the healer asked us to share our experience and said "IT IS OK TO COPY WHAT OTHER PEOPLE SAYING". That very simple sentence released me deeply, from the will to be unique, to be different. That very simple sentence taught me that being authentic is simply to do what you want to do, the same as a child will. I believe that while dancing we should let go of what our mind wants us to be (unique, noticed, good dancer, happy) and just be whatever we feel like. We want to embrace our true authenticity, even if it means we "copy" every single one of the other dancers. I believe that following our intuition is the only goal of Ecstatic Dance.

Dance is a great way to understand how I feel. It's like going to the gym, sometimes I'm tired and hungry, sometimes I'm upset, and another time I've made a new weight record. Each time represents our inner feelings, thoughts, and energy. Dancing, or going to the gym, or surfing, or whatever, can be a great opportunity to ask myself "How do I feel?" without saying a single word, it's a listening method. One who will listen will open a door for 2 kinds of changes - the first one is immediate change with HOW I feel, the moment I give this movement question a place - it changes me. The second change is more of a long-term change, I train my mind, body, and center a new kind of awareness - body awareness that shows me, in the physical world how I feel.

The Only Constant in Life Is Change

A dancer shared his Ecstatic experience: "I felt my soul dancing out of me, happy as if it had been waiting to burst into a dance but had many obstacles in its way. In the right space with the right people, the obstacles melted like butter in the August sun, disappearing in an instant. Suddenly, there was a powerful force guiding my body from one moment to the next, completely beyond my control. My mind was in a totally different state, with no room for any thought to enter, not even the smallest one. I felt pure love, complete presence, and strong vibrations like a continuous shiver at the top of my head and above it."

Ecstatic Dance // Hymn To The Soul // 15.7.24

There was a sole survivor from a shipwreck at sea. The lone survivor was carried by the currents and washed ashore on a small, desolate, uninhabited island. Arriving alone, he gathered pieces of wood he found on the beach and built a small hut. He managed to salvage a few items from the wrecked ship, including a pot he used for cooking. Every day, he would go out searching for food on the island.

One day, while venturing far to gather food, he left a fire burning to dry some fish. On his way back, he saw smoke from a distance. As he drew closer to the hut, he realized everything had burned down. Overcome with grief, he cried bitterly, saying to himself, "To lose everything again? First, I lost everything with the ship, and now I’ve lost all I had once more. Why? How?" He mourned his great loss and spent the night sleeping under the open sky.

The next morning, after years of isolation on the island, a ship arrived directly at his location. "How did you know to come here?" he asked the ship’s captain. "The smoke from your fire guided us to you," replied the captain.

Sometimes, we live off the remnants of our wrecked ships, clinging to the past at all costs, barely surviving. Then one day, even those remnants burn away. But the smoke sends a message to the universe—a sign of renewal and a fresh start.

Ecstatic Dance Revadim | Yin & Yang | 11.12.24

Emperor Akbar, the great Mughal ruler of ancient India, was a lover of the arts and a spiritual man in his own way. In his court was a Sitar player named Tansen, a master musician whose music was said to touch the divine. One day, after an extraordinary performance by Tansen, Akbar asked, "You are the greatest musician in the world, Tansen. Who could possibly play better than you?" Tansen humbly replied, "My teacher, Ram Dass. His music is far beyond mine."

Curious, Akbar insisted on meeting Ram Dass. They traveled to a remote forest where Ram Dass lived a simple life of devotion. Akbar hid and listened as Ram Dass played for the divine in his natural rhythm, pouring his soul into the music. The sound was transcendent, far surpassing anything Akbar had ever heard. 

Later, Akbar asked Tansen why his teacher’s music was so deep and meaningful. Tansen replied: "I play like a beggar, hoping to get something from someone – sympathy, love, money. Ram Dass plays without external intention."

Ecstatic Dance | Divine Devotion | 26.12.24

The Tibetan Buddhists call our primal state of mind the "Nature of Mind." When we are born and when we die, in this state, we feel silence and bliss. We feel connected to our inner purpose without thinking about it. This state of mind is great, but we did an even greater job covering it with many other things, mainly thoughts. Dancing can bring us back to our nature of mind. Through constant movement, we are essentially doing dynamic meditation, which can create the setting for our mind, even for a brief moment, to see who it really is and discover its true power and presence.
