Some tracks just happen… 

I grew up listening to The Doors, and Riders on the Storm was always one of my favorite tunes of all time. 

During my first experimentations with playing a full live set, I found myself playing this melody on the saxophone, then I looped the harmony and used a baseline from another track called “Darkness” to bring it all together… that’s how “Riders on the Storm” - the instrumental version became a part of my live sets everywhere I go… 

After playing it a bunch, I felt like it deserved a proper production & recording. 

I played around with it a bit, and it just didn’t work for me with the saxophone. I felt the vocals were missing… I tried to use my own voice but that also wasn’t a good enough representation of the song, so finally, I hit up Nachum from @Automatictoys, and the rest is history…

The Doors - Riders On The Storm (ITAI cover feat. Nachum) - FREE DOWNLOAD

ITAI continues his Unfinished Project with an upbeat organic house track called “Hafla in Wancy's World.”

The release comes via ITAI’s record label The Teddy Bear Lounge, but his music has also been released on other respected imprints ranging from The Soul Brothers' Talavera Records to Laroz's Camel Riders.

This release is the 8th instalment of the Unfinished Project where each track is a chapter of an overarching storyline, which will culminate in all the tracks being combined into an album.

Based in America, ITAI is a jazz musician and saxophone player who has focused his musicianship towards electronic music production. He is a talented live performer whose shows use a loop sampler to generate spontaneous tracks that utilise live piano and saxophone melodies, which are mixed with synths and sequenced percussion from a drum machine.

Not only has ITAI travelled the world to play solo live shows, but he has also done collaborative performances with others such as BLOND:ISH.

All of the tracks on the Unfinished Project have a strong concept behind them, and “Hafla in Wancy's World” is influenced by the Hafla parties that are traditional to Arab culture.

Hafla’s are deeply rooted in Moroccan and Middle Eastern heritage where friends and family will often gather in a backyard to sing songs and play instruments together. They started many years ago when some TV and radio restricted the music they would play, which led to people from these repressed parts of the world creating their own music.

Wancy is the name of ITAI’s girlfriend whose vibrant nature and lively personality is well suited to the upbeat energy and welcoming atmosphere of a Hafla party. So, the track is dedicated to her, as she is someone who loves Hafla’s and similar gatherings of friends and family.

“Hafla in Wancy's World” opens with Arabic clarinet melodies as the hypnotic bass synth fills the groove with upbeat energy. Poignant piano chords provide deep emotion while trippy acid synths and psychedelic textures create a mesmerising atmosphere. Accordions, claps and upbeat percussion fill the groove with a joyous party vibe.

Unfinished 08 - Hafla In Wancy's World

The Teddy Bear Lounge swings open its metaphorical doors with a first Chapter of the Unfinished Project from ITAI entitled Re-Birth. The unfinished project is a musical series that includes his take on sound from the past year. It isn’t just music, it includes a unique art piece by the artist Hillel Zehnwirth released with each track telling the story of this journey. It also comes out with a visual presentation describing the artistic process of the creation of the music, the art, and the relationship between them. 

ITAI is a world traveler, multi instrumentalist, live artist, and producer who brings global cultures, electronic styles and live skills to his work as well as influences form his childhood in the Middle East. He has climbed high in the Beatport charts with previous releases and released on the likes of Talavera, Abracadabra and more. 

He says of this latest project, "The overall feel is like antique structures and ruins in Greece or Berlin present in nature rather than the city , incorporating both modern and organic elements. The music is open and evolving and has a sunset moving into night type sound, evoking a sense of being in the moment and present in the music. The live version of the “Unfinished Project” project will not have a fixed structure, with live elements like Sax, EWI Piano & more each track sounding different every time it's played live at moments fully improvised." 

Re-Birth (Aka The Pain) is a tripped out synth soundscape with Middle Eastern-style mystic leads hypnotising next to tender piano chords as muffled sounds and voices add atmosphere. A warm mid tempo house groove eventually arrives underneath to lock you in further. It is a song that tells a tale of transformation and new beginnings. The sound of a baby's cry is heard literally in the song, signifying the start of a new life. 

Down By The River is a special track that sneaks up on you slowly with its cinematic sound that resembles a river. It features an EWI flute sound that gives it a village-like feel. It is a superb slow and seductive eight minute deep and dubbed out house crawler. The bass is rich, the chords full of suspense and plenty of smart fills, flutes, heartbroken keys and more flesh things out in majestic style. 

This is a unique new series from a label that is sure to become one to watch.

Unfinished 01.1 - ITAI - Re-Birth (Aka The Pain)

ITAI is a saxophone player turned electronic music artist, and his new release is an exhilarating melodic house release with cinematic suspense.

Known for his releases on labels such as Laroz's Camel Riders and The Soul Brothers' Talavera Records, ITAI has also played live saxophone as part of collaborative performances with other artists such as BLOND:ISH.

Living in America, ITAI is a well-travelled performer who has played shows all over the world. His shows are a blend of organic instruments, synthesisers and drum machines. He uses a looper to generate spontaneous tunes that utilise piano and saxophone performances.

This release is the 7th chapter of "The Unfinished Project" that ITAI has been releasing via his record label The Teddy Bear Lounge. It's a storytelling series where each release is a chapter in the story, and it will culminate as a collection that will captivate mind, body and soul.

"When It Gets Stormy" is the solo track on this release, and it pays homage to one of ITAI's friends called Stormy. The track also incorporates the unpredictable nature of stormy weather, as it's structured with dramatic builds of energy that create tension on the dance floor.

There is also an operatic element to the song which gives it a cinematic vibe due to how the instruments are used to create moments both tranquil and climactic. Many of the parts were created using the Nord keyboard that is often at the core of ITAI's live sets.

The track opens with ominous pads and filtered pitter-pattering that represents rain, and the arpeggio melody synths swell with modulating tones as the percussion holds a steady groove. Electric guitar chords and an electric violin play contrasting parts that represent the intertwined emotions of the opera's lead characters, and the organic textures of the percussion create an uplifting flow of energy.

RuPaul has been a revolutionary figure in the drag industry, bringing it to the forefront of popular culture. RuPaul has normalized and popularized drag, making it more accessible to the masses and also a big inspiration for me in my own sex positive and queer journey...

Unfinished 02 - ITAI - The Real Matador

ITAI is back on The Teddy Bear Lounge with "Unfinished 03 - Stüff" (pronounced SHTOOF), one of the standout tracks on the Unfinished Project series. He is a multi instrumentalist, live artist and a Beatport chart climber who grew up in the middle east and always brings fresh influences to his music.

"Stüff" is a jazzy and complex piece that stands out from the more traditional techno tracks on the series. The melody sounds deceptively simple at first, but as the chords are added, the song takes on a more intricate and advanced jazz sound. It makes use of various instruments such as the saxophone and live percussion and builds steadily with the tension growing until it reaches a climactic drop that transitions into a completely different ending.

"Stüff" is a two-part story, with the first part building on the jazzy sounds and leading up to the explosive drop. The second part of the track takes a different turn, introducing a new melody that evokes images of floating on water and stillness. The outro is tense and weird, with the sounds building and then exploding, creating a sense of release and resolution.

Overall, Unfinished 03 - Stüff is a unique and dynamic addition to the project, showcasing the artist's range and versatility.

Unfinished 03 - ITAI - Stüff

ITAI is back with the fourth chapter of his Unfinished series, Don't Forget About The Funk on The Teddy Bear Lounge. This artist is a multi instrumentalist, live artist and a Beatport chart climber who grew up in the middle east and always brings fresh influences to his music. This tune is a tribute to the funk genre with a modern twist and elements of blues and rock and roll but with a real focus on the dance floor. It has a weird twist to it like much funk music does. 

This richly layered tune pays homage to the innovative jazz of Maceo Parker with rich layers of arps and Nord synths that wash over you like waves of cosmic joy. The beats are catchy and the chords are full of soul. 

This is another standout tune from ITAI and what is proving to be a highly impactful series.

Unfinished 04 - ITAI - Don't Forget About The Funk

ITAI continues his Unfinished series with a fifth chapter on The Teddy Bear Lounge.

This track was actually the first he made for this project and started from a simple baseline idea. In this addition ITAI takes on a new style that draws on disco and indie with ITAI on keys and sax and inspiration taken from the likes of Red Axes, Blue Shadow and more, all with slow and seductive tempos.

Unfinished 05 - Disco??? is full of lush synth work that has real meaning. The drums are mid tempo and inviting, piano chords bring melancholy and the distant acid lines take your attention. It's a full body workout with a unique sense of soul and stunning sax lines to bring the romance. 

This is another standout cut from ITAI with all new influences.

Unfinished 05 - ITAI - Disco???

ITAI is an electronic music artist and saxophonist whose magical style is a wide range of sounds from downtempo to upbeat techno infusing multiple genres with electronic beats.

Based in America, ITAI has travelled the world with his unique live set that includes live Saxophone, EWI, Piano and other instruments played live incorporating the looper as a tool to create in the moment melodies. ITAI has released music on prestigious record labels ranging from The Soul Brothers' Talavera Records to Laroz's Camel Riders. He is a daydreamer whose music often takes influence from his travels and the different cultures he has experienced.

The Teddy Bear Lounge is a record label set up by ITAI to be an outlet for his own productions, and the imprint's debut series of releases is a musical story titled "The Unfinished Project." Each release is a chapter in the story, and will culminate as a collection that will enrapture mind, body and soul.

"Speedy Gonzales" is the 6th chapter in the Unfinished series, and it's inspired by his trips to Central America where he visited places like Mexico and Panama. Inspired by the hot climates and Latino culture, Speedy Gonzales has a sun-drenched sound that warms up the dance floor with its upbeat rhythms.

It's a downtempo track, but the flowing percussion and flamenco style guitars fill the groove with offbeat energy that creates a feel-good vibe. ITAI has road-tested different versions of the track in his live performances, and every time the crowd has gone wild with excitement.

Speedy Gonzales opens with a funky bassline and vibrant percussion augmented with whistles and vocal chants. The track unfolds to present flamenco guitars cut by filters to create a trippy atmosphere. Panpipes add to the hip-shaking vibe of this musical masterpiece, which is guaranteed to get people up and dancing.

Unfinished 06 - Speedy Gonzales

The EP "Indian Resurrection," orchestrated by KÖNI, presents a solid and decisive groove, enriched with organic rhythmic and melodic elements, and an ancient Indian-derived vocal. The song draws from Indian folklore, blending it with modern and electronic sounds to create an engaging and unique listening experience.
The EP includes valuable versions by ITAI and ÜNAM, both renowned artists with distinctive sonic visions. ITAI, a world traveler, saxophonist, live act, and producer, brings his ability to blend sounds from around the world, combining a jazz background with influences from his upbringing in the Middle East. I started performing my live set about 2 years ago,
and it has been quite the journey.

For me, a whole new world has opened up: 
More challenging, yet more exciting...
More personal, therefore more vulnerable...
More improvised and also leaves more room for “errors”...

After almost two years of playing almost only live, I played at @la_pizzinetulum . This was, from my experience, the most expansive, diverse and interesting set I've ever played. And the crowed there, true music lovers, were there for the whole ride...  

Sometimes, after a night like this, I listen to the recoding and some things are off, but this time, I feel like this set can represents me.
I hope you'll enjoy this 3 hour live journey at least as much as I did...

ITAI (Live) @ Hot Mess | Sunrise Set | Burning Man 2024

I fell in love with The Mystical Deer from the first sight, and since then, I’ve been lucky and honored to share music from it many times. However, playing the opening set on Monday night for the second year in a row has a special feeling all its own.

There’s this sense of anticipation—for the whole week to unfold—and yet, we’re all there, fully present, ready to warm up, dance, and share these moments and sounds together. This beautiful Monday night semi-tradition brought together so many friends from my camp, Treble Makers, and beyond. Seeing so many familiar faces was, for me, the ultimate joy.

In the spirit of ITAI & Friends jams, it was an honor and a pleasure to host the incredibly talented Monster Luna, whose mesmerizing voice and musicality added so much to this special moment. Thank you for sharing these moments with me.

This track has an ongoing story, and this is it's second chapter of it.
Originated by a very special man, asking us to make a very special tune, to a very special woman to celebrate their love... 
On the original version, we used that special mans vocals, and it became very personal and unique, that way it will be kept for eternity...
However we felt this music needs to be released to the world, so we started working on the acoustic version and we fell in love with this tune. Before this tune was complete, I left to Burning Man, where I was exposed (as usual) to so much beauty, especially by this breath taking art piece called "In Every Life Time I Will Find You" 
which I also had the privilege to play music to at the burn.
Coming back from the burn, it just clicked: this is the name of the song, and we need to "hurry up" finish it, and send it out to the world.

Me and Ori Dekel go way back... 
We played "Jazz" together for year, and were always both drawn to the Middle Eastern sounds and the polyrhythmic beats 
Ori wrote this track a while ago and we used to play it live at "jazz" gigs. 
Now, all it needed was a little twist kick and a push in order to fit todays dance floor. 
I think that now it does...

My journeys had lead me to believe that people from the Middle East are actually closer to each other than they would like to imagine... 
On my travels, my natural connections to people from Iran or Palestine  was so much easier and more natural than the connection to Americans or Canadians, we have way more in common... 
This led me to believe we can connect through music where there are no borders or need of politicians... 
Corona outbreak, has expedited this process and made the world truly borderless... with artists friends from Egypt, Jordan, Israel and Palestine Kuwait Dubai and more, we have form the Mediterranean Salad... 
And this is my first set I have ever played for this project... 

About Mediterranean Salad: 
Who are we?
A collective of artists, musicians and visionaries who have come together to see what a Mediterranean salad can look like if each ingredient came from a different country around the hinder sea, an ancient name for the med.. But since we are not cooks, we decided to make our “Salad” as online adventures exploring art, music, workshops, conversations and the worlds beyond from across countries around the Mediterranean body of water and friends.

What is our mission?
Our mission is to connect, support and build spaces for co-creation between artists, musicians and visionaries from across the Mediterranean countries and beyond.

"The story of “Falafel” goes through many countries, continents and families. It actually starts in Israel, where I used to play a Jazz gig for almost 4 years. One day my good friend (and amazing musician) Ori Dekel came up with a Middle Eastern jazz tune and called it Falafel.
I immediately fell in love with this tune and used to play it acoustically in Jazz gigs all over the country and the world.

When I was moving into the electronic music world, I wanted to infuse those sounds into my “live-electronic” hybrid shows, but it needed a twist, to fit the dance floors.
I shortened and adjusted the melody, and asked my musician friends from around the world to record the melody and their own interpretation for a solo, each with their own instruments. That way we had percussion, piano (Ori Dekel) and vocals (Noe Ben Shusan) from Israel, guitars (Rafi Levi) from LA, a trumpet (Aquiles Navarro) from Panama and so much more. I blended the sounds with the help of my good friend DJ Knoe1 and just put it out there independently.

I played Falafel for over 3 years on almost any possible dance floor (even weddings and Bat Mitzvahs) and it never failed me once! However as my sound evolved, I felt the track needed some touch and a proper release with the right label.
That was when , I made a new friend, Berge Sahakian aka Goldcap. Berge fell in love with Falafel on the spot and was the first to start playing it at his gigs around the globe. So when The Soul Brothers approached me to sign this track on Talavera Records, it was only natural for it to come out as a 3 track EP from all the above.
With the Jewish and Arab sounds of the Middle East, and the Latin flair of the Mexican due??? We can only hope this isn’t too spicy for you!"
