EPISODE III ‘CHANTS’
April 9
I'm pregnant. The doctors told me it was impossible; my eggs don't work. Yet, here we are. Must have happened with one of the many who had the freedom to come inside me last month. But honestly, it's not relevant. It will be born. Since my parents died and left me the house and the company, I've been alone, rich, and blessed.
May 11
The first ultrasound. The doctor said something was interfering with the ultrasound probe. We couldn't see anything. A machine’s problem, but after changing two of them, we gave up on the fact that we couldn't get a picture of the baby. However, from other analyses, everything is fine.
July 9
The first kick. To be honest, I feel a constant low vibration. Even though the doctors said everything is fine, I see how surprised they glance at each other every time they try to do an ultrasound on me. Dumbs, it won't work! The machines don't work. They don't even know the sex of the fetus. But this gives me a vague feeling of elation, as if always tipsy.
September 18
My first dream. I felt a very strong pressure in my belly, I lowered the covers and I could see it. I could see the features of the child who, pressed against the swollen skin, stared at me with its mouth moving. I woke up drenched in sweat. I took a shower to relax, but every time I look at my body out of the corner of my eye, I feel like I see it again. But it's not fear; on the contrary, it's euphoria.
November 23
A few weeks left. I woke up this night to find myself in the center of the living room, in front of the large wall mirror. My mouth was wide open, as if screaming. Laughed out loud at the stupidity of the scene: a pregnant woman at the beginning of her ninth month, all sweaty, with messy hair, wide eyes, and a wide-open mouth. If there had been anyone in the house, they would certainly have been scared.
December 21
I'm supposed to give birth anytime soon. The midwife came to the house because I had no intention of staying in the hospital. It will be me and her. It’s enough. Prepared the bedroom with a sink and everything we need.
My water broke, everything vibrates, there is a pleasure that runs through my whole body. The midwife sees me laughing and gets scared. What a fool.

December 22
She was born! As soon as the last push was given, the midwife took the baby and I think she went to wash her. It's all confusing, I couldn't stop giggling. The midwife stepped back from the sink, pressing her hands to her ears, her face contorted into a terrified expression. A trickle of blood dripped from under her palms, she let out a haunting scream, and then collapsed to the ground, motionless. Laughed my guts out; what an absurd reaction! Got up, still feeling the blood running down between my legs, and approached my baby. There she was: covered in fluids, stared at me with wide eyes, her mouth moving without a sound, the umbilical cord still attached to her belly. What a sweet angel! Picked her up and went to the mirror to admire us together in the reflection. And suddenly, plop! An explosion in my eardrums, a trickle of blood coming out of my ears, and then finally! Heard it! A celestial chant, a dirge that pervades my soul and heart! Makes the whole house vibrate! My baby girl is born, and she chants! A never ending chant! What sublime beauty!
