Italdred Mix 4: Cookie Monster Galaxy

Mindfulness is derived from Buddhist art as an act of meditation and accepting others, and has gained worldwide popularity as a distinctive method to handle emotions. A Sol Mechanic has the slow, nuanced beats that parallel Handbook’s tracks, while Handbook’s unpredictably swift beats pulse in unison to A Sol Mechanic’s nostalgic flow. This EP will bring variety and a tranquil sound to its audience in a sensational, attentive way.

A Sol Mechanic’s contributions in this EP, named “All Along” and “Elevate”, alongside Handbook’s releases, “Goldmines” and “Only just Met”, are proud - they truly allow the emotions to flow within the balance of pitch and rhythm. Enraptured, dreamy and enchanted, mixed with a sorrowful grieving, this is an EP for the listeners to relate to within their own practice of mindfulness.

Italdred’s elemental artists work to bring you musical loops, while remaining loyal to its sound played, with a wide variety of timbres and dynamics. The latter may still be an element of linear ordering within synth, looping and guitar that leave your mind high.

A Sol Mechanic - "The first time I heard Handbook and his original style I knew there was potential for a major collab between us. Being a big fan of his work and having crossed paths with him through various collectives, it seemed inevitable that we'd link up to create a collection we truly believe in. When Rob proposed a collaboration EP to be released on Italdred with Handbook himself, I jumped at the opportunity and am very grateful for doing so. "Mindfulness" explores our deep understanding of each other's creative inspiration and how we can create a profound landscape through collaborative thought."

Handbook - "A Sol Mechanic had been on my radar for some time and over the years I began hearing a lot about his development as a producer. I tuned into his music earlier this year and was blown away. Rob, at Italdred, reached out to me asking if I wanted to work on a split EP with ASM and I didn’t need to think too hard about it.

Alongside ASM, I wanted to create something powerful, but relaxing. Something that would leave an impact but wasn’t a chore to listen to. Something with an obvious feeling, but left the listener wanting to listen again and pick up on some of the more subtle aspects of the tracks. Something that left the listener respecting the craft of what was playing and enjoying what was going on. I feel that Mindfulness encapsulates that."

Earlier this month italdred was picked for the Bristol spotlight on Jamz Supernova's show on Selector Radio. As a part of that spotlight we were asked to pick a Bristol producer and Sir Hiss is a perfect example of how the Bristol music scene is thriving. He has put together an eclectic mix of genres he does not usually delve into which just highlights the talent behind Sir Hiss' skills as a producer and DJ.

@lijahuk has been making a name of himself as of late, with the self release launch of his album 'Chapter II' - the infamous 'Alhassan' track released on LUCY's label SZNS7N and a long awaited remix EP of that very same track on the way we decided that with all this commotion erupting since last year we would track him down for an interview and he was also kind enough to put together a mix for our series, ranging from 80 to 130bpm there's something for everyone...or everything for someone.

"Lightworks takes its name from a club night Kami-O use to run in Glasgow, and aptly so – it’s music that deserves to be heard on a soundsystem. That’s being said, there are two levels to Kami-O’s latest project. At the same time as it can transport you to the speaker wall of a dark, packed-out basement, it can also be played at volume in your garden without worrying what your new neighbours might think. There’s a melodic overtone that can outshine the dungeonian bass, depending on your mood and speaker settings.

With six tracks including a remix from Argo, Lightworks shows huge versatility, from the sharp consonant sounds of Computers, to the above-the-clouds musings of Aura."

For the 44th mix we have a vibrant, eclectic, hard hitting selection from the founder of @nostro-hood-system that is @galtier - Over the years Jiah has progressed his own productions far far away from the norm and he now sits comfortably in between the genres of UK Club Music and Techno, his music is not intended to appease the souls of the masses and make you dance first and foremost - in fact if you pay attention you can appreciate the intricate detail that has gone into each of these and they will take you on a journey . This is the same for his label as the direction literally falls into a different solar system within the Nostro Hood where producers and artists can express themselves with vivid and evocative pieces of music and art. Be sure to listen through the back catalogue from the Nostro Hood System and give Jiah some attention whilst you're there of course.

When you think of summer most people think of holidays, beaches, pools, BBQ's with friends and so on and so forth. All of these situations are great, but all of them should be accompanied by @xox_bristol. Time and time again they manage to ignite a feeling of relief and relaxation through their almost faultless RnG compositions. On this occasion they have moved to instrumental hip hop - it appears to be a comfortable seamless transition and one I hope they live in for a while now.
