ItaloJohnson’s avoidance of social media, insistence on only performing as a trio, and infrequent record releases are all deliberate choices. For this German trio, success isn't measured by income or fame, but by their own personal satisfaction and enjoyment of their craft.


The group never prepare their sets, preferring to read the crowd and let each record breathe. It's a reflection of their overall approach, which is focused on the enjoyment of the music rather than hype and information overload. ItaloJohnson's secrecy isn't a hipster affectation, but rather a deliberate stripping-away of anything that's unnecessary.


For these guys, success is about having their own rhythm and being responsible to themselves. ItaloJohnson's approach has gained them a dedicated following, and they continue to prove themselves, one tune at a time. We are therefore really hyped and excited that they’d be delivering a mix for us. You can listen to that one here. As you might expect, it’s a brilliant journey that pulls few punches while also serving up a brilliant snapshot of the trio’s penchant for brilliant house and techno.

Save the date. ItaloJohnson are dropping 'ITJ09' on March 31. 

Their last three-track 12" arrived in April last year, giving us a proper tasty treat of jackin' house jams. And that's we dig the Berlin-based trio so much. Whether it's through their own releases or superb selection on deck, they always guarantee maximum funky action. 

So it really is no surprise that their forthcoming record gives us three more banging house cuts to get down to on the d-floor.

Premiere: ItaloJohnson 'Untitled A1'

Nine releases under their belt, and still, ItaloJohnson keep up the invisibility act. Dance music's most inconspicuous production/DJ trio maintain their enigmatic persona, as they present ITJ10. After almost a yearlong absence, they are marking the anniversary of release no. 10 by switching up their white labels to black.

As was expected, their press release leaves a lot to the imagination, merely stating that the boys "are, in fact, the Ghostbusters." Needless to say, their tenth catalogue number is made up of two absolutely blinding constructions for the dancefloor. Following the typical ITJ rhetoric, the opening "ITJ10 A1" needs near-to-no explanation – flaunting some of the biggest club music sounds we've heard from the anonymous three-piece. Heady synth chords and an insatiable drum beat that kicks you right in the face. It's pretty impossible for this track not to possess you instantly. Who you gonna call?

Anonymous three-piece crew ItaloJohnson storm back with their first release since 2017 that further showcases the analogue-driven style that has garnered a cult-like following. Titled 'ITJ12', the EP features three diverse tracks, each with their own distinct flavor. Here Mixmag unveils the lead track '12A1' that features a rolling bass line, padded percussion and piercing synth lines. The track follows suite with ItaloJohnson's ethos of delivering "simple body soul music" aimed directly at the dancefloor.

'ITJ12' is set for release May 24.

ITALOJOHNSON is comprised of three people. They make music that is intended to be played in nightclubs so that people may dance. The music is not complicated. It is direct and simple. In this simplicity, memories, influences and emotions are affectionately invested. It is hoped that these are then transmitted. It is hoped that these are then felt and carried further. Simple body soul music. That's all.
