Samhain XX was an experiment in streaming during an incredibly dark and uncertain time. The idea was since we couldn't get together physically, we could get our whole community together on a stream in a totally immersive environment that allowed for things that wouldn’t be possible to happen in the normal material state of events. To make it unique to its medium, and to therefore look beyond boundaries and travel distance and normal event times and all the other things that limit the possibilities in the real world. This allowed us to put together an over 30 hour dream line up with so many inspirations and heroes. Impossible things like having people from all over the world in a single stream, like Wata Igarashi from Japan, or Azu Tiwaline from the Sahara by way of France, or Solar from SF, or Eris Drew from deep in the T4T LUV NRG woods, Danny Daze in Miami or Clark Price in Pittsburgh and so on. So we were more than ecstatic that one of our favorite producers who happens to reside in London agreed to participate: Forest Drive West. His music is stellar and moves in so many directions, it is truly an honor to have his set close our weekly releases / rebroadcasts of the Samhain XX series. We can only hope these experiments will help us mutate to a more interesting future.

Andy Toth casts a long shadow in the Detroit scene. From being co-founder of the Detroit Grand Pubahs to working as an engineer and mixer, he’s worked on so many records that you know but in his egoless way, didn’t know he was part of. Being the co-author of “Sandwiches” took him around the world, but more importantly it was the hold music for Mudgie’s, a legendary Detroit Deli run by another long standing denizen of the Detroit underground, Greg Mudge. Greg Mudge was a true pillar of our techno community in Detroit, from showing us the venue for the first leaky roof No Way Back, to throwing his own events and supporting great people. One of those people was Andy Toth, who he was constantly pressuring to release his music, and this became a major theme of Greg Mudge’s memorial.  When Greg suddenly passed last September, some friends came in to DJ his memorial like Derek Plaslaiko. When it was Andy Toth’s turn he played only his own productions and we were all just so blown away. Mudgie was always asking Andy “what’s up with those tracks?” And this record is the answer,  a testament to that thought, and to the deeply layered and detailed work of Andy Toth. Andy has created a uniquely dense Detroit Sci Fi trip through sound, with elements of acid, electro, techno that result in an advanced and mature adventure in sound, reflecting his roots in the Detroit scene, but pushing it into new hypnotic futures, to boldly go where no one has gone before.

Derek Plaslaiko at No Way Back May 29, 2022, night 2 of Return to the Source, a weekend at The Tangent. In his own words: “This was our first in-person NWB since before the pandemic hit. So, just that alone makes the whole night special. It was just SO amazing to have everyone in the same room again, going crazy to all these monster sets that everyone played. When I would look out from the stage, you could just see that *everyone* was moving, sweating and/or screaming for more. They were smiling and laughing and just so happy to be around people again. Specifically *these* people. The ones who come every single year and lose their minds alongside everyone else, without even thinking twice if they're going to go to the party, or not. I think everyone *needed* that party, myself included. There's just nothing else like it. Don't get me wrong, I am grateful we were able to do it over the internet during those lonely times, but there really is no proper substitute. And while this might not be the tightest set I've ever played, I think it got the job done. So, enjoy!! :)”

Sometime after dawn, in my favorite warehouse in Detroit – the Tangent – I got to play my favorite party filled with all my favorite DJs – No Way Back. It felt like the time for the party to take a deep breath and refill its lungs. Playing directly after Patrick Russell and right before Erika, I took the moment to give the party what I felt it needed. First, rays of light, and then expansions and contractions in the sound. 

For the technique, I played on a Model One mixer with a Moog MF Delay pedal and 4 CDJs. Much of the music is upcoming on Interdimensional Transmissions, or things I have recorded in and remastered for DJing, especially to be played on the giant Jim Gibbons rig in this room, a process I call “quick masters” or “QM” for short. Some are very rare, some have never been playable in this context, or lost gems by my heroes, like CH BB. Some are new jams being played for the first time, like “Another Planet” where I jammed with Neel in his studio in Rome this spring on my 608 (modified 606) and 303. My favorite approach to NWB is to compose new music for it and test it there, it is such a special room.

Neel is about as much of an Interdimensional Transmissions person as you can get. Cofounder of Voices From The Lake, a powerful and sensitive DJ from an early age, mastering engineer at Enisslab in Rome, he even is a partner in a record pressing plant. He does everything yet still finds the space to get specific in his internal investigations for the Disco Quarantine EP. Exploring the boundaries between genres, simultaneously pure deep techno and disco — this is rarely achieved — he continues to explore the edges with the ever propulsive title cut, and further connections with each song. Psychedelic, propulsive, subtle, perfectly produced gems ranging from hedonistic underground moments where time ceases to exist to moments of exploration throughout the cosmos. It feels like the B side opener Deep Quarantine was composed for the environment at No Way Back, though it is equally eternal and available to any floor anywhere in the world. There’s nothing like playing No Way Back. It’s such a unique environment. All the DJs look forward to their set all year, but then low key freak out before they play. Will they live up to expectations? Will they surpass their previous sets? You ask yourself, is this what feels like to throw lightning? You can sense the room expand and contract. Connecting to the audience and taking them on our journey is what it is all about. For this adventure I played on 4x CDJ-3000’s, a Pioneer V10 using 2 internal delays and a Strymon El Capistan pedal. I played some new tunes I had remastered, as well as a remix from Love Letters I had just completed on my new mixer, along with an edit of an unreleased version of Jordan Zawideh’s “Magellanic Cloud”, also mastered through my new mixer. What an amazing space to test these new tones. This was quite a sonic journey for me, and put me on an amazing trajectory where I feel like I’m constantly growing and improving and adding newly remastered music to every set. Looking forward to playing this coming weekend at No Way Back in NYC with the Bunker at the Chocolate Factory.

Ahead of the work we are doing with Detroit veteran Craig Gonzalez this year, here is a mix he’s done exploring new rhythms and soundscapes. We thought it would be prudent to share a mix of one of his many fresh perspectives, where he explores something we at IT find very compelling — new juxtapositions of polyrhythms and drum and bass within a deeply hypnotic techno context. 

"I’ve really been enjoying exploring the sonic space between techno and drum and bass. What excites me about this fusion is how it challenges both myself and fans of these genres, as it often defies the expectations of each. The introduction of polyrhythms takes it even further, pushing the boundaries and making the music feel truly genre-agnostic. In this space, the emphasis shifts away from traditional structures, focusing more on rhythm and context than on genre conventions.

IT.podcast.s14e02: Craig Gonzalez

Intergalactic Gary has been one of our favorite DJs for many years, as his genre transcendence aligns perfectly with IT’s vision. This set was recorded in a very special circumstance, at Tresor 313, May 25, 2024 at the Tangent Gallery on Day 1 of Return to the Source. Originally scheduled for 2 hours, it naturally extended to almost 4 hours, which is the kind of thing that is possible at this party when just the right chemistry happens.

We had Intergalactic Gary on directly after the Model 500 live show in the Gallery, the room was already on fire. When he came on he totally captivated the room, the energy was palpable as he effortlessly went from all sorts of variants of techno and house and the raw essence of what makes them – from Italo disco to early Chicago and forms of electro, culminating in his effortless presentation of the timeless sublime jam “Amenity” by Link, a peak experience for everyone present. This kind of perspective on music is really elucidating and liberating, and made for one of the most memorable sets of the weekend – delivered by a true cult hero. 


IT.podcast.s14e03: Intergalactic Gary

For this set I played on 4 CDJ 3000’s and a V10 mixer, using both of its internal effects processors. For every No Way Back set, and for most sets, I try to prepare new hardware remasters and edits of things that I think would be fascinating recontextualized in this setting. But for NWB, it is even more special, a peak moment, so I try to have new records I’m working on in the studio to test out. For this set that means the hardware mixes I’ve been working on for Torrvo and for Andy Toth can be tested, I’m working on this hardware mixing and remastering tone palate, so I spread that to some edits to give them a whole new power. Playing at No Way Back cannot be put into words, though we try every year, it really is inexplicable without experiencing it. It’s the environment you most want to be in, the space is totally transformed, the sound is dialed in, the audience is so ready, very giving and open, and the feedback you get is incredible. People are up for a ride – we start at the Tangent and end up going to the other side of the universe. Freedom within and without. There’s no place I’d rather be, so I thought I’d share this much sooner than we usually do. Enjoy the ride.

It's one thing to hop on the decks with someone during peak time at a party in a packed room like the first time Haruka and I played together in NYC but it's another to open a party during the last leg of RTTS weekend. So we started talking about the set a couple of months beforehand, but nothing really prepares you until you're in the middle of RTTS weekend itself. We were texting and chatting about the setup and direction throughout the weekend and eventually landed on keeping things a little funky and fun.  Playing with someone with a similar approach to DJing and also range really made the set feel so effortless for me and I feel that cohesion and the fun we had translated quite well to those that were in attendance.

We were both booked to play a Bunker party that night and with an hour left before our room was about to shut down, I asked Craig to jump on for an unplanned B2B.  Craig had already set the room up with a deep, super-diverse selection and then vibe in our room was so good, I will never forgot it. So when IT asked us to do it again we got hyped.

RTTS, Detroit
Our slot opened the last day of the three-day marathon, and other parties were running in the daytime too, so it felt like one long 72-hour session. Craig also played Movement. It was my first time in Detroit, so I wandered around, popped into a bunch of events, but spent every night back at Tangent Gallery with Craig—talking, listening to other artists, and getting a real feel for the room. That helped us lock in the vibe and refine the ideas we’d been tossing around for months.

The set
Two words kept coming up: funky and fun (maybe sexy too). I played only a few recent tracks but most were older finds with some electro slipped in naturally. In hindsight the whole thing was a back-and-forth between electro and deep, psychedelic techno, with extra flavours layered on top.

“NWB, being more than just the sum of its parts, always reflects my current life state(or lack of) and this year was no different. My friend Zach reminded me of this ultra-special cut by Arthur Russell: “In the Light of the Miracle.” It’s one of those holy grails and this mix (by Danny Krivit & Tony Smith) only existed as unreleased Talking’ Loud promo until a Soul Jazz comp finally issued it properly in 2005. I used to run it occasionally some 20 years ago, but hearing it again left me shook and set the stage for my entire set. And the rest of my life. My partner Ellen and I learned we were pregnant that same weekend.

Completely overwhelmed, I felt like I just wanted to share music for folks like I do in my own living room. Not really as a mix, but an intimate family affair. In the wee hours of the morning when I finally decided to share Russell’s opus, Ellen joined me on stage. We embraced and cried as we saw all our friends dancing in a now sunlit room.

IT.podcast.s14e07: Scott Zacharias at No Way Back 2025

30 Years of Interdimensional Transmissions Tour came to Karmen Camina in Strasbourg on August 23, 2025 – celebrating 30 years of summoning music from the other side. We brought a special lineup reflecting the context of that city and artists we connect to, focused around BMG & Erika with venue transformations by Amber Gillen & the Infinite Dimensions Crew. For the show in Strasbourg, in addition to DJ sets from Ectomorph along with solo sets from Erika and BMG, we were pleased to welcome one of our musical heroes: the genre transcendent genius from The Hague: Intergalactic Gary. This was the final DJ set of the 30 Years of IT Tour. This set really aces the mission of the whole tour, and after guests like Rrose, dBridge and Clarisa Kimskii at other shows, we really feel like we expressed so many sides of our vision. IT’s first record launched with Ectomorph in February 1995, and we have been devoted to the left hand path of Detroit Techno to this day, striving to create music and environments that are both timeless and inspiring.

BMG’s set from 2am to 4am at Samhain XXV, Nov 1st, 2025 at Tangent, Detroit. The night that time became a loop. Directly after Erika and right before Clarisa Kimski, while Mike Servito then Eris Drew played in the other room. 

“It’s hard to put any words down about this night; it was a magical night. Dimensions collided, it felt like we stood in a place outside of time. It is illogical that the Samhain parties keep getting better, but they do. I’m playing on a set up of multiple CDJ-3000’s and a V10, using the internal effects and many of its processors to reveal new sides of the sounds while in the mix. My main preparation for sets is taking songs I would like to hear on a massive soundsystem and using hardware to remaster them, and give them a new stronger tonal quality. It is both invisible and visceral. “For Scott Zacharias’s No Way Back: Streaming From Beyond set we asked him to bridge the 24 hour continuous NWB into the Outer Space room, coming on directly after Mozhgan’s deeply mesmerizing set. At the physical event, No Way Back has 2 rooms. The No Way Back room, and the Outer Space room. Scott has a unique function unseen anywhere else in the world, coming on at dawn in the Outer Space room after a night of ambient and experimental music, taking an audience that is often laying on the mats on the floor in a blissed out state, and elevating them first in mind, and then in body as he channels his own freeform take on the sleaze tradition. He starts formless and then begins to bring in compelling and psychedelic gems, inching the tempo up so slightly over the course of many hours until the whole floor is pulsating in an under 110 bpm heaven. After nights of major psychedelic experiences, this allows for a kind of mental freedom. This is so crucial, the weekend is a marathon, and you come in to hear Scott to be recharged, it is food for the mind and soul, as he goes from ambient to everywhere you need to be. For the stream, we asked our favorite dharma bum to do this in reverse, since it was a one room stream, starting with NWB and ending in Outer Space, he began with the deep groove and slowly disintegrates it into oblivion, leaving you in Outer Space as only he can. No Way Back: Streaming From Beyond

A 36+ hour take on No Way Back, with 24 hours of the No Way Back room residents and 12+ hours of the Outer Space room immediately following. An excess of the mindmelting wormhole dance experience followed by many hours of floating in space and beyond. When we considered podcasting some sets, we decided to just release them all, one week at a time, in an order different than their original broadcast, with the concept of bringing further ideas with the continuum to light.

For us the toughest moment of the pandemic shut down was the thought that we could not gather on Memorial Day weekend for our annual rite of No Way Back. We need our community now more than ever, to connect and to feel free, in a world of shifting real and unreal realities, sequestered in isolation, how can we get together? Time feels different now, we have more patience for everything, so we applied that space for exploration to the sets at No Way Back, extending them to 3 hours so the DJs can fully explore their ideas.

The Electrifyin' Mojo would say "if you reach the end of your rope, just tie a knot and don’t let go" and this stream and podcasts are our knot. This was the first ever NWB without a defined space, without the transformational art of Amber Gillen and crew, let's hope we can get together in the future safely. Grab a little bit of netting or a parachute, turn on some red lights, move into another dimension. Please stay safe and live to dance another day.

His first set warming up for Tin Man was also stellar, but that pure late night intensity really shines through on this mix. "The week prior to creating this set, I decorated my space and placed my mind inside the powerful and quite honestly life-changing memories I hold of No Way Back; the curiosity, the cavern-like environment, the audio experimentation and boundary crossing evoking responses that vary from wandering honestly and freely inside one's thoughts to the complete obliteration of said thoughts and letting the wisdom of the body perform its work on us.  My intention with this ambient set (all of my sets..) was to create currents, gradually, with just enough whispers and fragments to be subtle guides and invitations for you to imbue the sounds with your own meaning, to add your own messages and experience to the currents.  If there was ever any lesson to myself about how incomplete my work feels without this crucial element, it was the necessity this year to communicate from a distance, via video instead of a real-time space.  And how it felt most complete again when we gathered together virtually in the live stream, being curious, being supportive and present, sharing psychedelic gifs, chatting, laughing and crying!  So there it was - it happened, we connected and transcended the medium.  I will always hold this year's event dear to me for reminding us of what we still have.   Infinite gratitude towards Interdimensional Transmissions and The Bunker New York for being such enablers, to the dedication and brilliance of the artists (and the humbleness in their brilliance) and you!"
