What do you play when you're closing down an inspiring weekend retreat celebrating 20 years of Shameless? Here you go!

Although the recording ended up with a few random pops/crackles along with an 8 second moment where a CDJ died mid mix (not sure WTF happened there?!), I decided to move past the imperfections and share this moment in time. 

I won't ever forget following John Tejada's epic 3 hour journey to close out our 20 year celebration riding into the morning together.

Recess Closing Set - Vicennial 20 Year Anniversary Retreat - Recorded Live 8-13-23

Picture this. An entire weekend shared on a beautiful private property at the base of the White Horse Mountain near Darrington. Nestled in the forest with a river nearby and 100+ of some of the best humans around! Toss in a Danley soundsystem, a spectacular lighting set up, extremely talented DJs and I basically spent the entire weekend feeling inspired by the loving creative energy all around me.

By the end of the weekend it was time for me to play. Closing down music festivals are some of my favorite moments and I'm grateful that this one got recorded to share with you all. For context this set took place from 3:30am-6am Sunday morning. Oh and I know how many of you enjoy track listings so I added that here as well. Enjoy!

Recess (DJ) Live Recording via Substation 12-20-24

Floyd Lavine's Seattle debut at Deck'd Out 7-3-25 was a blast! We were lucky enough to have him join us for an encore performance at Diffusion the next night. If you've been to Diffusion before you know how good it sounds in that little basement on those Danleys. It's really how this music is made to sound so I'm always grateful to be given the opportunity to play on it. The party went from 11p-6a. I played direct support opening from 11p-1a. Although I was winging it from start to finish, I did go into this set with a game plan. While utilizing 3 decks I would focus on minimal and melodic techno (mostly) and continuously loop tribal/percussive beats on the 3rd deck throughout my set. My hope was to make it more dynamic of an experience. Most of those loops came from tropical house/tribal based tracks from around 2007-2009. As a result, I was pretty busy playing and improvising on the fly, but it was a lot of fun and fortunately got recorded (because there's no way I could replicate it later, lol). Given how all over the place I was with the samples/loops throughout the 2 hour set, creating a track listing is tough. Please feel free to reach out about particular tracks and I'll figure it out. Recess is a long time advocate for Underground Dance Music and community building in the Northwest.  As a dj, Recess always brings a fresh perspective to the decks with an array of sounds and textures that ranges from techno to house, tribal, electro, disco, and more.  He melds underground classics with hard to find electronic gems keeping each set unique and one of a kind. 
His renowned efforts with Shameless Productions have pushed the envelope over the years in the PNW, introducing our community to fresh new talent while maintaining diverse line ups, safe environments, and everything else to help keep our underground  lovely & weird <3 . Seattle doesn’t have it’s edge without the efforts of Recess and the Shameless family.  
We were fortunate to have him make a special (and rare January ) appearance for the first Flammable of 2019 and drop a beautiful set that would be described as a heartfelt love note to Flammable Sundays.  Thank you Dan!

Recess has been in a long term love affair with Seattle’s underground music scene for the past couple of decades. In the late 80′s he found his second home at the long defunct Club Underground in Seattle’s University District (along with DJ Dominator aka Donald Glaude, DJ Dan and many others). During the 90s he bounced between raves, rock shows and jazz clubs appreciating the passion and community behind the scenes. Using these early experiences as a platform, he started collecting records and honing his skills at various clubs around the Northwest; quickly establishing himself as a formidable performer. 

In 2003 he founded Shameless Productions (responsible for numerous legendary underground club nights, parties and shenanigans). Along with a changing cast of players, over the years, Shameless established itself as a trust worthy brand by throwing some of the most memorable events the Seattle's undergound dance music community. From day one, each Shameless party was a special one regardless of the wide ranges of genres and bookings represented. With an eye towards the cutting edge, but deep respect for electronic music's rich history, Shameless has kept it's finger on the pulse of Seattle's underground for close to 20 years. 

In 2006 Recess was nominated as one of Seattle Weekly's best local DJs. His DJ sets often reflect Shameless' aesthetic by focusing on forward thinking music while cherishing the gems of the past. He'll span the various sub genres of house/disco music, and also weave through techno, electro, breaks depending upon the party. His range, passion and deep understanding of the dancefloor has made him a longtime favorite underground club DJ in Seattle and the greater Northwest. Whether it’s an afterhours loft space, major club, mountaintop, or random BASSment; Recess has consistently brought the sounds and energy to fit any dance party.
