The Wave Star Hotel

Another cheap live performance made with Sonic Pi. I wanted to do more with it, but then my laptop battery started to die on me. What a stroke of luck! I'm really reaching my limit with the pre-built synths and would like more control.

Of Two Minds

Made this short track for the lobby screen of a game jam entry. It ended up playing throughout the short game. Somehow, I can imagine David Bowie doing vocals for this one. Really proud of the build up towards the end, too.

Game Over, Man!

When I saw a synth preset called "DeepSeaLife", I knew what I had to do; make a dark ambient piece written in C# Harmonic Minor. Tried to rely more on synths than layered samples this time, implying the narrative from the composition alone.

It's also no co-incidence that I've been reading 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea...

Drowning Shadows

A quick, electric track written in E Minor. I discovered the bass line whilst poking at my keyboard one day. I thought with the right synth this could sound like a foreboding military theme, but it turned out very differently. Once I'd added that heavenly choir, there was no turning back...

False Pretenses

A strange kind of song that might accompany a spy. I started with the drums first, and when it felt too empty I decided to add the bass in. I'm not sure it could use much else. Written within an hour or two in G Major at a cool tempo of 115 beats-per-minute.

Infiltration

A short, soft, looping track that I composed for a university project. This is really the first time that I've properly messed with velocity curves when it comes to my go-to drum VST, MT Power Drum Kit. Heavily inspired by "Golf Course Select" from the Wii Sports OST.

Selections

I was listening to the House of the Dead soundtrack the other day and really got inspired. I'm currently learning to play both "Intro" and "Theme of the Magician". But as I was playing the opening interval, someone noted that it sounded like I was "trying to summon the Devil" and that gave me an idea. This track is composed almost entirely in E Harmonic Minor at 88BPM with some off-key notes to keep things nice and spooky.

Summon

This is the first proper track that I've composed using a mixture of Sonic Pi and Audacity.  The patch seen here only contains five live loops, but it sounds really authentic when spliced together.

Lung Machine

A hobbyist composer with a keen interest in free software, ambience and heavy metal. Plays the piano, but wishes he learned the guitar instead. Really wants to grow up to be Akira Yamaoka someday...
