Where has the time gone? It seems like only yesterday we were prepping our inaugural podcast from Ed Banger founder Busy P for your listening delights and here we are today at edition number 400. 

We’ve had some great guests since launching the series back in 2009 but today we’ve got a mix that is up there with the very best of them with special 2 hour set from DT favourite Skream. One of the most respected figures in the industry, Skream has long championed his own sound, ignoring genre boundaries and tearing up the rule book as he drops of house, techno bass and anything else he feels like playing into his sets which have rocked crowds around the world. It is this ability to effortlessly cross genres - Skream has wowed us playing everything from Dubstep to Disco – that had us so intrigued as to what the eclectic Of Unsound Mind boss would conjure up on the decks for podcast number 400.  What he has delivered is a stellar journey through techno that has put smiles on the faces of everyone who has heard it so far. Roll on podcast 4,000!

Thomas Hayes - 2014 End of Year Mix

Hello again, for the final time this year.

Presenting the first of two holiday treats for you (the second will be the GDJB Classic Showcase next week) - a special three hour journey for Afterhours.fm's End of Year Countdown celebrations.

Having a three hour timeframe allowed me the opportunity to really express the journey aspect of a set, being able to build things up slowly from the beginning. It's difficult to create one of these sets in a short period, and I'm grateful to have the opporunity to go beyond a normal length studio set to do so.

After about a month of digging, finding, compiling and editing, I managed to get the set completed during Christmas week; in between preparations for the open to close solo sets in New York and Miami.

It is a mix I hope that you will enjoy and appreciate for some time to come, and for those of you not attending a gig on New Year's Eve, it can maybe be your audio of choice to welcome 2015.

Big thanks as always to the AH.fm crew for allowing me to contribute to this yearly event. I think it's the ninth year in a row now that I've been involved. And as always, a huge appreciation to all of you for the love and support throughout the year.

Let's hope we have an incredible 2015 together.

A triumphant return to old form after classic bangers like PROTOTYPE (KOMPAKT 92), FREQUENCY (KOMPAKT 102) or MAXIMIZE (KOMPAKT 145), but also a bold step in a new sonic direction: Kompakt ally REX THE DOG presents his latest offering SICKO - a brand new 12" packed with two incorruptible rabble- rousers that hit the floor right behind the ears, employing sharply focussed thrust and dramatic sweeps to stunning effect.
Having started out with just one synth in 2004 - the same vintage Korg 700S that was used by Mute Records founder Daniel Miller for his legendary "Warm Leatherette" outing -, REX THE DOG knows perfectly well how to squeeze the most out of a limited set of sounds. A growing intimacy with analog gear finally lead the producer to design and build his very own array of modular synthesizer components, including a sampler fittingly called RTD-001.
Armed with this barn-storming DIY attitude, and using gear he made with his own hands, Rex pulls two strikingly muscular rabbits out of his hat: the A-side's title cut SICKO is a raw, pounding cut-up fest that builds a scary amount of tension just with a few distinct elements, while the flipside's KORGASMOTRON loads up its bleep-ridden chassis with a succulent, sweeping vocal and some well-placed acid drops. Both tracks showcase a leaner, cleaner, but also meaner approach to dance music, making this a particularly thrilling entry in REX THE DOG's oeuvre.

Time for something a bit more laid back here on Essentializm. Israeli duo Las Salinas have been making a name for themselves on the Trance scene for a number of years now, having previously released on Vandit Records, Lange Recordings and Amsterdam Trance Records. We’re a big fan of their productions and they’ve come through with the goods once again here on ‘More Than Ever’ with UK singer/songwriter Loz Bridge.

Loz has built quite the following in his own right with UK radio play, extensive touring experience and glowing reviews for his vocal performances. This time around is no different as his soulful melodies lend perfectly to a well produced track that will send you off into the distance...
