A few months after Stereo Express & Thomas Lizzara gave us their thrilling Up & Away EP, they are back with another blockbuster release. They joined forces with the exceptionally talented vocalist Jeffrey Jefferson to create “Darlene”. The track is floating on an arpeggiated, moog-ish bassline which carries Jeffrey’s vocal in perfect style. Punctuating percussion sounds and an engaging groove provide great energy. 

Raumakustik’s remix takes things deeper. Heavy, raw sub frequencies drill big wholes into bass bins, while rolling hi-hat patterns keep the hands in the air. Hovering chords support the morphing the 303 pattern while making space for the chopped up vocals. A fine pice of dancefloor madness right here!

Summer&#8217;s just around the corner, with the Ibiza and festival season ready to roll. What better way to kick things off than with the fifth volume of Great Stuff Grooves? 

Dutch master Rene Amesz heads up the package in his inimitable style with Some Things Must Be Done, featuring one of the year&#8217;s most unusual vocals from MC Stretch. Amesz serves up a deep take on his chunked-up tribal sound that pares down his distinct sound to its sheer essence, while Stretch delivers a politicised spoken word diatribe which is light years away from the usual throwaway house music vocal. It&#8217;s a classy, succinct track that still carries a lot of weight in its stride - and there’s a dub version in the package too. 

Techno fiend Ant Brooks steps up next with Modul, an infectious little roller with a supremely funky bassline, energetic yet delicate percussive patterns and just a little tribal inflection to make things chug along nicely. It might seem innocuous on first listen, but fire it through a big system and you&#8217;ll see, hear and feel its undeniable impact. 

Upcoming French producer Maverickz rounds off with Got Back The Funk, continuing the tribal theme with some nifty percussive grooves and rolling rhythms which come together to make a killer shuffling tech house track. It&#8217;s another exercise in simplicity and space, with low-slung sub bass and taut claps firing the whole thing along beautifully. One to get the floor moving early on, or to add some heads-down meat later on in the night.

An outer-space vibe is struck right from the off on DJ T. 's reinterpretation of ‘Bedouin Ride’, as ‘80s synth sounds combine with emotive chords and deep bassline sequences that rumble down low. Kiwi’s dynamic version of ‘Bazar Break Battle’ offers a slick balance of sweeping leads, the original’s captivating vocals and sharp snares to produce a hazy and haunting production.
DJ T. aka Thomas Koch is a stalwart of the electronic music scene, launching Groove Magazine in 1989
and co-founding Get Physical, he has served up four studio albums and a string of releases via Defected, Moon Harbour and Play It Say It. His highly anticipated latest album ‘Trans Orient Express’
