Born Ivet Fortun Lopez on December 15, in El Cerro, one of the residential, architectonic and archeological places in Havana, Cuba, Ivet grew up in a small family where no one had anything to do with music professionally. (She was surrounded by music nonetheless, listening to Salsa, Merengue, Rap). She felt inclined to music when she started singing and acting at early age of 7, at school plays and acting in Little Red Riding Hood, Snow White and reciting poems at civic school events. Cuban Babe first got into reggaeton music in the 1990's when the genre wasn't yet known as Reggaeton.  After hearing El General and Vico C for the first time she was instantly hooked.  As La Perla Negra grew older, she took an interest in English hip-hop. She released her first album titled "La Perla Negra" under the pseudo name Cuban Babe. She is now working on her second album to be named "Urbana e Intelectual".
