IVONA ROSE (nee Budys) is raw, evocative and honest with a touch of strange. Dreamy, eccentric, melody marries poetic songwriting. 

She has been singing, writing poetry and songs since she was a young girl.  Her 1st instrument was the flute and she later went on to study music theory and piano at The Australian Institute of Music and through piano teacher Nick Fowler, who developed the Pop Piano syllabus for the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. Her love of folk and alt country saw her import an Autoharp from the USA, which she has been playing for many years.  

Stylistically, there are elements of  Alternative, Folk, Acoustic, Country and Experimental music. Described as: “If Dolly Parton met Bjork”, she describes her music as "Folk Fiction Music, for Wolf Pack Sympathiser's".

In October 2012, Ivona won the Songwriting Society of Australia, Songwriter's and Performer's 1st Place prize, which has helped her get back into studio and record. Her new single "Hoopla" is focused on piano composition, voice and Ivona's unique story telling.  Produced with Brian Campeau, Sydney songwriter and musical brain, at his studio "The Plex".  Brian adds key elements to this delicate, new-folk song.

 “SheHeIYouMeWe” is Ivona’s debut EP, released independently.  It is her collaborations in composition with talented musicians; Aaron Flower (Yum Yum Tree Records, BAZ, The Alcohotlicks), Timothy Hall (Hazel, The Whitlams, The Strange) and Ewan Proctor (Xoandco, Quarter Acre).  The recording features many fine instrumentalist; Evan Mannell, Naomi Radom, Clayton Thomas and Stuart Hoy. 

It was her 1st release to radio and the recordings enjoyed high rotation on FBI, featured on 2SER, Bondi and Skid Row FM. 

2018 will see Ivona Rose release her debut album "So Modern". Produced with Brian Campeau at "The Plex" recording studio, it is a collection of 10 carefully selected and crafted songs. Featuring Zoe Hauptmann on Bass (Paul Kelly, Missy Higgins, King Curly), Evan Mannell on Drums (Sarah Belkner, The Alcohotlicks, Self Titled Artist), Emily Palethorpe on Cello (Sarah Blasko, Accent Strings), Casey Nicholson on Trumpet (Ngarukuruwala, The NEO, The Boom Band Krewe) and Brian Campeau on Guitars and Synth (Self Titled Artist, The Green Mohair Suits, Jimmy Swouse and the Angry Darts). 


"In the old days, this would have been filed under acoustic singer-songwriter or “she’s a folky female, man! dig it!” depending on who you were hanging out with and what you may have been smoking. Now there’s this new aisle called New Folk and this is probably what Ivona would be tagged with in the 21st Century.
