Artist concept Ampersand is unveiled by debut single ‘I Need You,’ and atmospheric yet propelling fusion of electronic notes, out now on Smash Deep. 

Presenting a unison of DJ/producers Keerthin and Harricane who both hail from Johannesburg, South Africa, Ampersand is the duo’s stylistic bond, bringing together their respective studio flairs under one innovative project. Keerthin is an upcoming name of the dance circuit who has scored huge signings with the likes of Spinnin’ Records and Hardwell’s Revelaed Recordings. Co-producer Harricane, who is also in the infancy of his career, shows bounds of potential to go from bedroom producer to globally renowned artist with a growing catalogue of original works. 

Together, they share ‘I Need You.’ The first sonic sampling of Ampersand. Clean-cut and contemporary in style, ‘I Need You’ borrows hyped-up bounces of Stutter House influence and glitching grooves that make you want to move. Capturing full attention in each dynamic break, it’s the final slowed down, swirling, atmospheric, synth-laden crescendo where the emotively calling vocals echo “one more time, I need you” and signal a final bass outburst. Flexing equal measures of vivacity and straight up skill in the studio, ‘I Need You’ is a defiant debut offering and sure-fire signal of what’s to come from duo Ampersand.

When I first looked to find some references tracks for colored basses in psytrance, I could not find anything, so this might as well be the very first color psytrance song ever! (yay i made a subgenre)

update november 2025: so i'm stupid apparently, plenty of other people have already done this before me. i wish i could tell younger me to be more careful before declaring something absurd
