Singapore born turned eastern Canadian artist responsible for the Phyla Digital record label comes to us this month for our EXCLUSIVE MIX SERIES. IYER contributed to our first compilation 'Fire Hazard' earlier this year, released a new album on Ground Mass Music and you have probably caught his name on many compilations and mixes in and around the footwork community. The man has epitomized footwork jungle with this new mix!

Phyla Digital is proud to present the highly anticipated collaborative EP from Buffalo's Mark Kloud and Toronto's Iyer.

The title track, 'Constant Conflict', is a journey into the furthest depths of the possibilities explored by cross pollinating the frenetic energy of footwork music into the minimal dystopian style of drum and bass.  'Desolate Area' slows things down to create a glitchy percussion driven  workout. 

The producers then go separate ways, as Iyer teams up with fellow partner in crime TdotBEAR for the simple intricacies dealt with in 'Soundbwoy'. Mark Kloud counters with 'Stroma', paying incredible attention to detail in his trademark style.

Very cool premiere for you guys today. This one is from the homie Iyer who's got a way with footwork and infuses it with his worldliness. In this case he flips a tune from the Dutch-Punjabi singer Imran Khan. It works really well. You'll be able to grab this on the comp from Toronto's Bedroomer crew that drops on Friday. It's chalk-full of great flips of popular (and less popular) tracks into forward thinking club music.

We are back with a brand new stormer of a selection from the man they call Iyer, who lands on Modern Ruin Records with his very well thought out ‘Third Culture Tamilian’ project, showcasing the perfect fusion of eastern instrumentation and footwork style rhythms. 

Iyer kicks things off with ‘Extramarital, a collaboration with The Sine Painter which from the off shows itself to be a masterful display in vocal sampling, hearing traditional eastern vocal patterns slice together between smooth, punchy drum designs. This is followed up by the more classic juke structure of ‘Rahukaalam Rajini Rush’ which combines hushed vocal snippets with spacey chord expanses with ease. 

Following this, we take the instrumentation to the streets of the east as we are greeted with pounding sub pulsations and clap double-ups of ‘Heartbreak Express’, topped with yet more precisely chopped horn sounds. This is then chased up by the fourth and final original ‘Joy and Suffering’, which perhaps showcases the widest range of sounds from start to finish, switching between male and female leads above smooth drumwork below. 

Before we finish up, however, we are treated to one last surprise as Breaka steps into the hot seat to round everything off with his bubbling rethink of ‘Rahukaalam Rajini Rush’, overhauling the original creation with aquatic percussive punches and melodic piano breaths, leading into one hell of a wonky breakdown.

"Extramarital" is the lead track from @iyer's forthcoming "Third Culture Tamilian" EP. Written in collaboration with 2016 RBMA alum @thesinepainter during his visit to San Francisco, the hyperactive tune samples vocals from a song in a Tamil movie with great meaning to both producers.
