IzMpande is a soulful emcee with a New York presence and South African roots. Born in exile he is a product of two freedom fighters: Solly Simelane and Nthabi Simelane caught in an armed struggle for the freedom of South Africa. Though South African, Mpande was born in Mozambique but spent most of his formative years in New York. Mpande hopes to shed light, love and positivity through his music and life in general. He prides himself on listening to and creating music with feeling, and a message. As an emcee, musician, host, or facilitator Mpande really has the ability to capture a crowd’s attention with his rich voice and a delivery that is lively and always full of passion.

His warm and charismatic personality make him a phenomenal emcee and he has the experience to support. Having the opportunity to open for Ne-Yo in front of a crowd of 20,000 people at The Dome arena in Johannesburg is one of Mpande’s fondest feats. Mpande was part of the pioneer hip-hop duo ‘Loose Cannon’ and helped to lay a foundation for the musicians found on charts in South Africa and beyond. After the passing of Mpande’s mother, he took a break from music but found himself drawn to the healing qualities music possesses while caring for his late wife, Michele. “Baby Bel”, a song dedicated to her was the first piece of music that he wrote again. The suicidal passing of close friend, and acclaimed South African emcee HHP aka Jabba in 2018 encouraged Mpande to further return to music.
