This song is an original blues which was first developed in May, 2009 as a 
writing/recording demo with the working title "Lizard Boogie". The original 
guitar tracks (two acoustics) were recorded on the road and then, once back home,
everything else was added in. After receiving additional instruments and vocals the 
song was mixed down to a stereo demo version running 1 minute and 41 seconds 
and still with the working title of "Lizard Boogie". It was then put away -- but 
not forgotten, as the early demo was circulated to all the members of the group 
at that time. No further work had been done on this track for over two years.

Then, in early October, 2011, Lizard Kucera went into Horse-Drawn Productions 
in Berwyn, IL with singer, producer, engineer and long time collaborator Fil Kinetic 
to do some recording. They wanted to cut some tracks in the big room
there using Fil's mobile recording station. It was during that session 
at Horse-Drawn that Fil and Lizard began working on a new arrangement for
the song and gave it the name "Do Your Thing".  The duo recorded through the 
night tracking drums, acoustic guitars, electric guitar, piano, percussion and a 
scratch vocal track. That version was given an early mix and mastering and came in 
at a length of 5:02, thus leaving room for further editing and for additional
instruments or parts (harmonica, lyrical revisions, various solos, etc.). 

Preserved here is that original demo from 2009, only remixed and extended back 
to its original length of 2 minutes eight. This demo version is a bit more of a 
swing-shuffle style, whereas the version from Horse-Drawn has much more of a 
Chess Records feel and the tonality of a late 50's era Howling Wolf or Muddy Waters recording.  

"Do Your Thing" is being considered for inclusion on the upcoming debut album of 
Lizard Kucera & The Undigestibles.

Izzy "Lizard" was born Larry Kucera (Lawrence Edward Kucera) one fine autumn day on Kedzie Avenue in Chicago (October 18th, 1968). He was raised and schooled there. He was later raised in adjacent areas such as Franklin Park, Mt. Prospect, and Glen Ellyn, Il where he experienced much culture shock but eventually committed to becoming a Glen Ellyn boy. He has spent most of his life living between major waterways near inland seas. At one time, Lizard had gotten himself all the way up to 195 pounds.
