ExtraLife Somber

This is an experiment, recorded live in one take as I performed it. The only post-processing involved here was some gentle EQ.

I used a Beatstep Pro to sequence the ostinato on the modular, leveraging a very simple patch of my E350 Morphing Terrarium as the voice, controlled by a SSF PTG for VCA duties, and the Echophon providing some clock synched harmonized delay.

The remaining parts were played live on the Nord Lead 2X using three slots. Switching slots during the performance also controlled two different timbres on the analog Four which were layered in with the parts from the Nord, and the A4 also brings some of its effects as well.

Modular Inspiration

This track was performed in one, live take. I used all four voices of the Analog Keys, a Machinedrum, and my modular sequenced/transposed by a BeatStep Pro. 

This and it's similarly named sister piece was created late one evening in a cottage nestled within a remote valley. This was my first approach; the companion piece uses the same timbres but with a more languorous pacing.

Night Cottage Gloaming

This and it's similarly named sister piece was created late one evening in a cottage nestled within a remote valley. This was my second approach; the companion piece uses the same timbres but with a more determined attempt to get the undulating modular basses onto the stage.

Night Cottage Midnight

This is a sample of the latest Der OTO system version, and I make use of the filter & amplitude envelopes, 16-step sequences, manual sweeps of the analogue filter, LFO adjustments and more live "playing" of the OTO Biscuit.

The recording was made "live" by sampling these Der OTO sounds (there are no other sound generating sources) into the four recorder banks of the Kaossilator Pro. I mute and un-mute the banks as the song progresses. I did use a couple vocoder patches on the Kaossilator to break up some of the OTO's sounds.

PerKoLator

Bassist, synthesist for various ensembles & genre, including world music and jazz. Currently 1/3 of the apartment 12J trio, where I play double bass, four-string electric bass, synths, plus assorted goodies. I also play with Greg Herriges and his Telluric Currents ensemble.
