After bursting on to the scene in 2017 with the dub techno stomper ‘Zulu Blues’ on Navy Cut records, Melbourne based producers Pugilist and Mystik collaborate once again, this time around with 3 tracks on Modern Hypnosis.

The A side ‘Sabu’; a unique blend of polyrhythmic Latin inspired percussion and chanting, complemented with a rolling bass line and dreamy synthesised chord progression; is a genre blending trip, sitting at 135bpm.

On the flip side, two sophistically crafted dub-step pieces. 'Misty in Roots’, taken from the vaults after hypnotising dances in Melbourne on dub plate for the last 3 years. Minimal, meditative, eyes down music.

'2 Steps Backwards’ (available vinyl only) is an energetic 140bpm piece. Nostalgic roots inspired 'Dub-step of old’ is infused with creative oscillating synthesis, musicality, and post modern dubbing techniques. A subtle bass line switch up on the second drop guarantees satisfaction.

Today's installment in the Booms and Claps mix series comes to us from London's Lewis James in the form of a 47 minute turbo-charged high octane journey through halftime drum and bass beats, footwork, jungle, electro-influenced ghettotech and juke, and 160 bpm rave music. We've had our eye on Lewis for quite some time now, from his early self-released Bandcamp beats, to releases on the legendary Lowriders Recordings and Rua Sound, to his recent success with major uptempo bass music imprints like 1985 Music and Astrophonica Recordings, and we couldn't be more excited to see where he goes from here. From what we're hearing in this mix, it seems like he's taken an interest in the four on the floor 160 bpm electro sound that has been championed recently by folks like Fracture and Om Unit, and we certainly hope there's more to come from him in that vein. Without further ado, we're proud to present BnC Mix 047: Lewis James.
