A riff on Jon Hassell's _Fourth World_ series. Where Hassell focused on creating ritual music of potential societies that _didn't_ exist; Ian Kim Judd seeks to evoke the notion of potential utopian societies that _could_ exist. In these times of global instability and uncertainty, Fifth World seeks to posit an alternative, with scenes from an optimistic future.

We're also excited to share that his new track, "coda," will appear on our upcoming compilation, WARM02, out in full on May 25th

q. pls introduce yourself:
a. Hi we’re asio and usof from the Living Room crew


q. is there a story behind the mix?
a. We were invited to perform a sleep show by the Ouvido Absoluto crew in Coimbra. We were very excited because playing a sleep set was always something we wanted to do. We've been collecting tracks specifically for an occasion like this for many years. On top of the different tracks we were improvising with a variety of digital instruments, to create an organic canvas of sound that is always moving, but very slowly. The idea of influencing dreams with music is one aspect that we found particularly interesting. So for that reason the set is not always focused on creating comfort, but rather different, sometimes quite alien moods.


q. what’s the best way to enjoy your mix?
a. Sleeping and dreaming.


q. describe a favourite object in your living room…
a. Perhaps the red desk light in Cosmos (technically our living room:). it creates a very cozy atmosphere.


q. are you working on any projects right now (music or not music)?
a. The whole Living Room crew is soon set off to play at Waking Life. After that we’ll have a string of events in Lisbon, with the next one being on the 6th of July.

Cercle de Musique Libre [live] (Radio Sofa @ HORS-SOL Festival 2025) - Snippets

Karina Kazaryan aka @kptransmission is a sound artist, musician and producer. Georgia born and Siberia raised, her approach to experimental electronic music is initially influenced by various noise rock, industrial, punk and post-punk music acts. Karina assembles her compositions from analog synthesizers and field recordings – monumental hums of abandoned harbors, ships and construction work or various domestic tones. She also likes to sample acoustic instruments like cello, viola or piano. What results can be described as intelligent noise characterized by lo-fi soundscapes, intermittent industrial rhythms, hypnotic synthesizers and overall magnetism. Karina released several solo albums, collaborations and compilations via international labels such as Autogenesis, Death of Factor, Industrial Coast, Not Not Fun, Etang Brulant, License to Love while performing on stages of CTM, Urvakan and Norberg festivals. She also teaches music production and composes music and sound design for films, exhibitions, performances and advertising.

Les Invocations aux Anges et aux Oiseaux
Although direct connections between angels and birds may seem uncertain or questionable, here they are united on both an acoustic and philosophical level. Beyond shared sonic qualities, both works stem from a sustained interest in the phenomenon of communication in the broadest sense—continuing Vlad Dobrovolskyi’s previous explorations of diverse relationships between music, language, and environmental sounds. As these pieces demonstrate, this includes a wide range of human and non- human sonic expressions, selected both for their intrinsic uniqueness and for their physiological impact on the listener. 
Clearly, these compositions engage specific opposites and dichotomies— such as microcosm-macrocosm, natural-supernatural—yet more importantly, they focus on human attempts to comprehend our place within a universe that does not belong to us, and on the desire to reach out to the alien—even when this "otherness" speaks to us from realms entirely beyond our imagination and comprehension. 

Vlad Dobrovolskyi is a media artist, mentor and sound researcher.
Manifests the world through a collection of man-made sound assemblages.
Recently, Vlad Dobrovolski has focused on the ideas of illusory and elusive reality. He explores the illusory nature of the material and the unconscious, as well as other controversial aspects of human existence. Vlad is fascinated by the subtle textures and intricacies of sounds, especially very quiet phenomena.
The artist develops author's methods of field recordings in order to record the phenomena of the surrounding sound from different places of the planet.
One of the main directions of Dobrovolski's work is the study of sound illusions. He is interested in how sound can evoke certain states and perceptions, even if they are not inherent in this reality. Vlad is looking for ways to use sound to create new emotional experiences for listeners.
