I honestly feel that this mix captures some of Jase's fine and varied taste in music and I know first hand that he enjoyed all of these tunes (highly likely I sold some of them to him as well haha) I also wanted this mix to be a journey as well.

The Eaze Up Show - Episode 310

A short but enjoyable journey into the vast catalogue of the esteemed, legendary Mo Wax label.

Mo' Wax was a British record label founded by James Lavelle in 1992.
The label was not co-founded by Tim Goldsworthy, as is often reported.
Steve Finan became co-owner shortly after.

Mo' Wax came to recognition for being at the forefront of trip hop, turntablism and alternative hip hop during the mid-1990s. The label also released notable records covering techno, drum and bass and electro. Mo' Wax also helped the graffiti artist Futura 2000 regain popularity, by using his artwork on many of their releases in the 1990s.

Lavelle signed partial ownership of Mo' Wax over to A&M Records (now part of the Universal Music Group) in 1996. When their deal expired he signed with Beggars Group, who still own some of the catalogue.

The name derives from "Mo'Wax Please", the title of a column James Lavelle wrote in the magazine Straight No Chaser and the Oxford club night he ran. This in turn was influenced by the Freddie Roach LP, Mo' Greens Please on Blue Note records.

The original Mo' Wax logo as used on the early releases was designed by UK graphic designer Ian Swift "Swifty" and the label grew their reputation by featuring artwork contributions from Futura, Robert Del Naja (from Massive Attack), She One, Req1 and Kostas Seremetis. Ben Drury and Will Bankhead were the main designers responsible for the art direction and design of the label.

The label also released toys and art prints under their Mo' Wax Arts (MWA) imprint, and collaborated with artists such as Mark Gonzales, Mike Mills, and Money Mark.

The label shut in 2002 and was celebrated in 2014 with an exhibition titled "Urban Archaeology: 21 years of Mo' Wax".

This still stings but this is how I approached this first tribute mix to the mighty Mu...I compiled and mixed tracks I knew he loved as well as some works he remixed or was associated with from the perspective that he was listening to me on radio and you will notice that this tribute mix is diverse...because that's exactly what the great Man was. 

Losing Mu has been truly devastating to me. He was a mentor, a close Friend and we had a special bond right up until the last time I saw him, which was sadly at Smiley's farewell, but the beauty of that time was that he got to meet my daughter, and we hugged each other. Mu was always special to me and I have a lot of stories and so many fond memories. I hope that this first tribute mix speaks about how much he meant to me.

This tribute is long overdue and one listen to this mix you will witness exactly why it needed be manifested, B-Sides, Unreleased joints, solo joints and guest appearances it's all here and as I was compiling joints, it is very likely that a part 2 will suffice with a rare joint on the next one...so who is Maspyke?..

Maspyke is an underground Hip-hop group known for their smooth production and intelligent lyricism. The trio, consisting of Tableek, Hanif Jamiyl aka H Bomb Boogie, and Roddy Rod, blends jazz-influenced beats with sharp, thought-provoking rhymes, creating a signature sound that resonates with hip-hop purists. 

Hailing from the East Coast, Maspyke gained recognition in the late 1990s and early 2000s, releasing projects that showcased their deep musicality and socially conscious themes.
