Kerrie started a label called Dark Machine Funk, a name which hints toward the kind of music she plays. And while the Irish artist might be a capital-T techno DJ, her idea of "dark" is a little different than the black-clad legions of her generation. You won't find whiplash-inducing BPMs or racy pop edits in her sets. Her idea of techno is more classicist, without veering towards the stuffy or the retro. Her DJIng and her productions bridge the divide between Euro and  American styles. Hints of breakbeat or other broken patterns bring in ideas from the UK techno that she loves so much, such as the pivotal label Blueprint, where she's become a regular  as of late.

With her, the devil's in the details (listen to those deliciously twisted hi-hats in recent track "Transient Belief"), and that comes down to mixing records, too. Her RA Podcast is a fast but measured run-through of 90 minutes of techno by artists like Exium and Tensal and from labels such as Token and Soma. Though none of her own tunes make the tracklist, this mix perfectly captures Kerrie's style. She's someone who appreciates that the real power and force of techno comes from its groove, not just the impact of the kick drum or pure speed.

After hearing a snippet of J-Lab`s improvisational live performance recorded in Whales at the incredible at Freerotation festival, It was a must that I invite him to the program today to get more detailed information about J-Lab and his creative personality. It's winter, grey and cold. 
You wanna get home, escape the elements, come in from the cold and start to feel the warmth once again. These thoughts were very much in my mind when doing this recording, aware as I was that we're on our way back to the time of warmth and festival season once again. So here's a little sonic journey from the depths of the grey Berlin winter to the heat of the dancefloor. In these difficult times we're living in, it's important to hold the spirit of the dancefloor close to our hearts. 

For the tech heads - recorded in one take on a DSI Tempest, Roland JX-03 and a laptop running Live, Numerology, a Prophet 5 emulator, a SH101 emulator and a few loops, through a Really Nice Compressor and an A&H ZED10FX desk.

This live set is made up mainly of a bunch of material I've been working on since before Christmas. And then recorded during the lockdown we're all currently experiencing to some degree or another. So the silence and the space we now have in the city was undoubtedly an influence on the performance. Dedicated to the memory of the wonderful Mike Huckaby, who passed from this realm into the next whilst I was recording this. I've written, produced & performed music since I was a teenager, playing bass in bands as well as in electronic ensembles. Been working solo as J-Lab for a few years, playing many gigs. All my live stuff is improvised out of my material, & my productions are performance based as much as possible. Over the years I've had tracks released on Unoiki, Micheavious & Alt Recordings. I also work with Dr Nojoke &  as Paralelo, which is an l improvisation-based project. Currently producing & looking for more gigs. Enjoy!
